Nation’s beloved voice, 92-year-old playback singer Lata Mangeshkar, died in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Sunday following covid 19 complications, which resulted in multi-organ failure.
Ms Mangeshkar was admitted to the intensive care unit after testing positive for covid 19. According to an ANI report, the late singer was treated for both covid 19 and pneumonia and did not show much improvement as the month progressed.
Her condition deteriorated, and she was put under observation at the intensive care unit due to her age. On Saturday, his condition didn’t show any improvement, and she was put on ventilator support.
Over the last week, she seems to have shown signs of improvement; however, her condition yet again dived down, and she was put back on the ventilator.
Several high profile political leaders, celebrities and personalities took to social media to pay their last respects to the singer. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid respects to the late singer, saying he’s ” anguished” over her demise.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, and NCP leader Supriya Sule rushed to the hospital to check on the singer.
As a mark of respect, the government has also announced that there will be two-day mourning observed in memory of Lata Mangeshkar, with the National flag set to fly at half-mast for the next two days.
According to reports, the late singer will be brought to Shivaji park for public viewing and put to rest with state respect. Dubbed the Melody Queen of India, Ms Lata Mangeshkar has been the voice of top actresses across many generations.
With a well-renowned career of over 70 years, the late singer is well known for over 5000 songs and several compositions under her in over 36 Indian languages.
She was also the recipient of numerous national awards and honours, including the Padma Bhushan, the Padma Vibhushan and the DadaSaheb Phalke Award, and other National Film Awards. She also won the Bharat Ratna honour, the highest Indian civilian honour.
Ms Mangeshkar, who belonged to a prominent musical family, learnt her first music lessons from her classical singer father and eventually started her career at the very tender age of 13.
Her song Dil Mera Toda, for Majboor in 1948 was her cinematic breakthrough, following which she earned quite a bit of popularity with the track Aayega Aanewaala from Madhubala-starrer Mahal.
After this, her career kicked off and made the country fall in love with her unique voice. She was well known for her rendition of Vande Mataram and other songs like Ajeeb Dastan Hai Yeh,’ ‘Bheegi Bheegi Raaton Mein,’ ‘Lag Jaa Gale,’ ‘Tune O Rangeele,’ ‘Aye Mere Wattan Ke Logo,’ ‘Maye Ni Maye,’ ‘Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye,’ ‘Tere Liye,’ and ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’.
Her last known album was for the 2004 film Veer Zara. Her previous song, ” Saugandh Mujhe Is Mitti Ki”, was again a tribute to the Indian army and was released in the first half of 2021.
