Issey Miyake, a famous Japanese fashion designer, who built one of Japan’s biggest brands and was also known for his boldly sculpted. Miyake defined an era in Japan’s modern history, reaching stardom in the 1970s among a generation of designers and artists who reached global fame by defining a Japanese vision that was unique from the West.
He was born on 22 April 1938, Hiroshima (Japan). He is known for his exhibitions fragrance, clothing design such as l’eau d’lssey, which has become the best product.
Tributes are coming in for the top fashion star Issey Miyake who wanted to either become a dancer or an athlete but changed his mind.
Issey Miyake died sadly from liver cancer at the age of 84. His death was announced on August 5th, 2022.
Miyake did his graphic design at Tokyo’s Tama Art University. In 1965, after the completion of his graduation he migrated to Paris, where he enrolled at the renowned tailoring and dressmaking school. In 1966, he began his career as working behind the scenes for four years in ateliers operated by a trio of 20th century fashion legends – French countries Guy Laroche and Hubert de beene. After his struggle finally in 1973, he established a Tokyo studio.
Mr. Miyake was feted in Japan for creating a global brand that contributed to the country’s efforts to build itself into an international destination for fashion and pop culture. In 2010, he received the Order of Culture, the country’s highest honor for the arts.
Miyake’s origami-like pleats transformed usually crass polyester into chic. He also used computer technology in weaving to create apparel. His down-to-earth clothing was meant to celebrate the human body regardless of race, build, size or age.
In addition to his clothing, Issey Miyake was also known for his collection of perfumes and colognes. His product L’Eau d’Issey was launched in 1992 and became an international best seller. The light scent which was inspired by water, was hugely influential, helping to popularise oceanic perfumes.
In 2005, he was awarded with Premium Imperiale for sculpture and in 2006 he won the arts and philosophy Kyoto prize.
