The lieutenant governor of Kashmir, Manoj Sinha is all set to inaugurate the first multiplex of Kashmir in Srinagar on Tuesday. The collaboration is leading with the many theatre chains of INOX and is now ready to blow minds in the multiplex of Shivpora consisting of a total of three movie theatres with a huge capacity of 520 seats.
A special screening of the movie Laal Singh Chadha will start the process and the regular shows will commence from 30th of september.
Kashmir was once full of working multiplexes till the late 1980s but everything was hardcore shut down amidst terrorism and chaos. Many authorities tried to fume up the process many times and it was around late 1990s when the chaos began and a deadly grenade was thrown on regional cinema in the very heart of famous Lal Chowk . It was September of 1999 which killed one person on the very day in which the theatre opened. Other theatres like Broadway and Neelam were opened too with huge security forces but everything was shut down soon. Many of the cinema halls were then converted to shopping complexes and nursing homes and others were occupied by the paramilitary forces.
A full team of CRPF was sent along with sniffer dogs to check the parameters of the multiplex on Monday.
“Sitting in the cinema will be a new experience for movie buffs. We have installed state of art equipment. And it will all be a different experience than what it used to be 30 years ago in cinema halls of Kashmir,” owner of multiplex, Vikas Dhar said.
He also added, “When we decided to open a multiplex in Kashmir, profit was never in our mind. We wanted to give our people entertainment and hope people will join in good numbers to watch movies once the regular shows begin”. See also PVR, INOX merge to form India’s giant entertainment industry
