Florence Pugh made her pink princess dream come true as she stunned in a ‘BarbieCore’ sheer pink Valentino dress, along with The Princess Diaries star Anne Hathaway, K-pop singer Hwasa, actress Ariana DeBose, and many more in attendance at the Valentino Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2022/2024 Show. It was by far her most daring choice in fashion. Undeniably, she has made us swoon over her.
However, even in the era of high fashion and acceptance mindsets, people still face backlash over any and everything. Even with a huge fanbase, celebrities are not left far behind on the receiving end of this backlash either.
Similarly, the Oscar-nominated actress also garnered some vulgar and unsolicited comments from some critics for her bold choice of fashion at the Rome Fashion Show. She wore a high-neck, bright sheer pink gown embracing the current ‘Barbiecore’ trend and decided to forego a bra underneath the see-through fabric.
Pugh took to Instagram to confidently share pictures of her in the bodice with a sassy caption that said, “Technically they’re covered?”
However, after she received some nasty comments from men criticizing her appearance or for having a flat chest, she went to post a lengthy message on Instagram yesterday directed at them.
She began with “Listen I knew when I wore that incredible Valentino dress that there was no way there wouldn’t be a commentary on it. Whether it be negative or positive, we all knew what we were doing. I was excited to wear it, not a wink of me was nervous. I wasn’t before, during or even now after.”
She called out the men who didn’t think twice before tainting or destroying a woman’s body publicly and how they take immense pride in it.
Pugh also expressed how whatever happened to her won’t be the last time a woman ever goes through such experiences where she has to hear all about her body from strangers lurking on the Internet or elsewhere. But, to her, the worrisome part was how some men could be so vulgar.
“Thankfully, I’ve come to terms with the intricacies of my body that make me, me. I’m happy with all of the flaws that I couldn’t bear when I was 14,” she added.
She found it more concerning how critics were scared of breasts whether they were small, large, left, right, only one, maybe none even. Pugh expressed her gratitude for how she came from a family with very strong, powerful, and curvy women. She shared a lesson saying, “We were raised to find power in the creases of our body. To be loud about being comfortable”
She gave a piece of her mind to the body-shamers of 2022 with “Grow up. Respect people. Respect bodies. Respect all women. Respect humans. Life will get a whole lot easier, I promise.”
Pugh’s motivating post led to a myriad of supportive and positive comments, even from her entertainment industry colleagues. The Kissing Booth actress Joey King left a heartfelt comment saying, “You are truly so amazing. You put into words what so many feel but can’t articulate.”
We truly appreciate Florence Pugh for standing up against such abusive body-shaming opinions. We can only hope other women or men do too.
