Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is an ex-prime minister. Imran is accused of threatening an Islamabad police officer and a female magistrate during a speech, and Pakistan’s media regulatory authority has banned live broadcasts of his talks.
According to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, Imran’s recorded speeches would only be permitted to air going forward provided a sufficient delay mechanism was in place to ensure effective monitoring and editorial control (PEMRA).
PEMRA stated in its notification that it “hereby prohibits the broadcast of Mr. Imran Khan’s live speech on all satellite TV channels with immediate effect” in accordance with the authority’s delegated powers under Section 27(a) of the PEMRA Ordinance 2002 as amended by the PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2007.
According to ANI, the suspension came hours after Khan vowed to sue Islamabad’s inspector general, deputy inspector general, and a female magistrate for the “torturous” treatment of his close aide Shahbaz Gill.
According to Geo News, he criticized extra district and sessions judge Zeba Chaudhry for approving Gill’s two-day physical remand last week at the capital police’s request and threatened to launch a complaint against her as well.
Khan said, “We will not spare the IG and DIG,” while addressing the throng outside Islamabad’s F-9 park.
After making controversial remarks about the Pakistani army on television that the country’s media regulator deemed to be “extremely hostile and seditious,” Gill was taken into custody by the police on August 9.
He was detained on suspicion of planning to propagate disinformation against the government using a private TV news program.
Imran Khan claims that Pakistan is “becoming a banana republic” following the arrest of his close aide Shahbaz Gill.
Imran Khan, a former prime minister, stated on Wednesday that Pakistan is “descending into a banana republic” amid the uproar surrounding the incarceration of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shahbaz Gill.
“Entering a country of bananas With a video of Gill being taken to the hospital, Imran Khan tweeted, The civilized world would be appalled at our levels of brutality.” The worst aspect is that a simple target has been picked to be used as a lesson in torture without a proper trial.
In a subsequent tweet, he wrote, “Meanwhile, the likes of NS, Maryam, MFR, and AZ, all of whom have in the worst way & continuously attacked state institutions through hostile and targeted statements against them, get away without even a hint of a reprimand.”
The PTI leader expressed worry that Shahbaz Gill might be arrested once more and said that the detention of Gill was a plot against him and his party.
“Because of the trauma he endured while being kidnapped, transferred to a secret place, and then again at the police station, he is in delicate physical and mental health. This is a plot to target me and PTI by obtaining fake information on us under duress, much like they have been doing to social media activists” added he.
