Imran Khan, a former Pakistani prime minister, was granted pre-arrest bail on Thursday until September 1 by an anti-terror court in Islamabad.Â
The PTI leader was granted interim bail by the court, but it has ordered police not to arrest Imran till September 1.
The former Pakistani prime minister was detained for making threats against a judge and two senior police officers last week during a public event in Islamabad. According to the Anti-Terrorism Act, Imran was charged (ATA). Imran was granted protected bail until August 25 by the judge, but Imran’s attorneys later filed a motion in court asking for pre-arrest bail.
Imran Khan was also detained in another case for disobeying an Islamabad city ordinance prohibiting public meetings. Officials from Imran’s Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf party were also accused of breaking the law.
The backing for the previous prime minister Imran Khan has divided the Pakistani Army.
According to Bloomberg, there is disagreement inside the Pakistani Army on Imran Khan’s backing.Â
Since being ousted in a vote of no-confidence in April, Khan has attempted to mobilize followers in the fifth most populated nation in the world to take to the streets.Â
The challenge the Pakistani military faces is that the more they work to remove Khan from politics, the more likely it is that he will gain support.Â
Khan accuses the present administration of being too accountable for skyrocketing inflation even though most analysts concur that current Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inherited the nation’s economic problems.
In what many called his “popularity test,” Khan won the by-election for 20 assembly seats in the province with the highest population in Pakistan.Â
He risks a terrorist allegation for criticising leaders, but the army of the nation is hesitant to move against him because they want to see how well his campaign is gaining public support.Â
After the Pakistani people had had enough of the corruption scandals involving the Sharif and Bhutto families, the former cricketer for Pakistan was elected as the nation’s leader in 2018.
