Nadal advanced to the third round of the French Open by defeating Corentin Moutet 6-3 6-1 6-4. Among his 21 major titles, Nadal won 13 at Roland Garros. Among males, it is the highest.
On Wednesday, Rafa Nadal put on an imperious performance to win his 300th Grand Slam match, smashing local hope Corentin Moutet 6-3 6-1 6-4 to go to the third round of the French Open.
Injury?
Nadal has won 13 Roland Garros championships, the most among men.
Despite an injury-plagued buildup to the claycourt competition, he has looked at his best in the first two rounds.
The Spaniard, whose training had been impeded by a rib ailment and a foot problem, was adamant about not discussing his health.
He told reporters, “I can’t attempt to go very far in a tournament if I worry about my physical concerns every day.”
“So, whatever happens, I’m going to accept it. But for the time being, I’m concentrating on tennis.”
‘Fantastic Start’
After facing Dutch 26th seed Botic van de Zandschulp, he could face world number one Novak Djokovic, whom he beat last year.
In the opening two sets, Nadal hammered the red clay with winners from both his forehand and backhand at Court Philippe Chatrier, leaving Moutet isolated. Nadal broke Moutet’s service four times in their opening two sets, but uncharacteristic errors in the third set gave his opponent a 2-0 lead.
Nadal broke back to put the set back on service on his first match point. After another exchange of breaks, the Spaniard broke Moutet again to win victory.
“I didn’t expect a fantastic start to the tournament since my preparation wasn’t perfect,” Rafael Nadal stated.
“However, everything has been going swimmingly. I’m pleased with what I accomplished out there tonight. Of course, there is potential for improvement, and I must improve if I continue to have opportunities to go further.”
