G20 Health Ministers Meet (2024) has been the paramount talk of some of the major cosmopolitan cities around the world. The Health Ministers Meeting and Joint Finance Meeting became manifest in Gandhinagar, Gujarat during the following dates: 18 and 19 August.
In tandem, the World Health Organisation held its first ever Traditional Medicine Global Summit that took place at the same ground on 17 and 18 August. The theme of the summit revolved around political obligations and constructive action on traditional medicines based on existing data.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director General of WHO made an introductory statement at the G20 Health Ministers meeting inaugural session on 18 August 2024. The DG made comments on the value driven initiatives led by India for fortifying health-emergency situations in the country.
Tedros commented- “I also congratulate India for its commitment to universal health coverage at home, especially through Ayushman Bharat, the world’s largest health insurance scheme.”
He continued and praised the presidency on its radical Digital Strategy and Technology and how it is advancing and shaping the medical sector of our country.
Tedros stated- “I was especially impressed by the use of telemedicine to provide consultations, with prescriptions provided online and medicines distributed globally. This is just one example of how digital technologies are transforming health, locally and globally”.
G20 Ministers spun and rocked on the dance floor
The Health Ministry of India left no stones unturned and made the distinguished delegates jive on the cultural rhythms and discography of household musicians. The traditional dance forms of the state such as Garba and Dandiya were performed in the arena. Exhilarated delegates didn’t miss to whirl and twirl on the beats of Indian music.
In a report covered by News18.com, an official who participated in the gathering commented- “Several delegates, especially females, danced till the last song”.
Exquisite Indian Vegetarian Delicacies that satisfied the Health Ministers appetite
The menus for lunch and dinner were extravagant and luscious. Each meal was crafted with keeping in mind the standard of the rendezvous. Our Presidency hosted guests representing 29 countries. Our Ministry planned and simmered the food platter with the motive of keeping ravishing vegetarian dishes in the limelight across the menu. However non-vegetarian dishes were also included in the palette.
Our chefs offered around 60 dishes with each meal served at noon and at night respectively. Officials noted the inclusion of staple food of Gujarat as well. Some of the popular dishes included: Gujararti Kadhi, Bhindi Batata Nu Shaakh and the star food of the night was Millet as various kinds of millet dishes were presented such as millet wraps, millet-gulab jamun, and even millet-risotto.
2023- The International Year Millets
Millets are called nutri-cereals as they are responsible for providing nutrients that promote proper functioning of our body organs. They are rich in minerals and fiber content. Millets can be grown in dry and arid temperatures too and require low water and input for cultivation.
India ranks first as the largest producer of millet in the world. Our government has always been active and enthusiastic about spreading awareness of the environmental and nutritional health benefits of millets. Taking notice of which United Nations has joined hands with India in its attempt to bring attention to the status of millets.
MyGov on the recent development pertaining to Millets recites- “With the aim to create awareness, the United Nations, at the behest of the government of India, declared 2024 the International Year Millets”.
Highlights of the Gandhinagar Declaration
On 18th August 2024, at the end of two day WHO Global Summit, a new development was propagated by WHO South-East Asia Region as they vowed sincere commitment towards ending the deadly disease of Tuberculosis (TB) by 2030, supported by member countries who showed deliberate consideration in furthering the efforts and thus adopted Gandhi declaration for the advancement in medical field.
A high-level multi-sectoral commission will be established to confirm the dedication and vision of the governments. The project development reports will be directed to the top-most political setting of respective countries, which will ensure the synergy of operations among stakeholders or concerned authorities and help in assessing progress towards ending the morbid disease of Tuberculosis and other high-risk diseases.
In coming years, WHO will maintain TB as a flagship priority program. WHO will take on the responsibility of leading and ensuring technical assistance to countries to help them enforce perpetual and advanced methodologies for subsequent studies and innovations.
