“According to GAIL (India) Ltd., the country’s biggest gas marketing and transportation firm, they plan on starting dispersed LNG production in order to provide the fuel for customers.”
On Wednesday, GAIL (India) Ltd, the biggest gas transportation and marketing company in the country, said that it aims to get into distributed Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production in order to deliver the fuel to customers. LNG is short for liquefied natural gas.
At subzero temperatures, GAIL will liquefy natural gas, which means they will transform it into a liquid, and then transfer it to customers via trucks.
According to a statement released by the company, “in what will be a first-of-its-kind attempt in the nation, GAIL wants to engage in distributed LNG production with the ambition to cater to the demand from off-grid places and the transportation industry.”
GAIL has placed an order for two liquefaction skids that are capable of generating LNG on a pilot size but are only suitable for small-scale production. The liquefaction process will be carried out using mobile liquefaction skids that are based on patented technology.
“These plants will enable the building up of LNG filling stations and bunkering in addition to assisting in the distribution of natural gas via the process of liquefaction in new city areas and remote fields. It will be the first company in the nation to develop portable and scalable liquefaction machines, it claimed. This would be a first of its type in the country.
The purpose of the project is to provide a push for the concentrated measures that the Indian government has been working on to enhance the proportion of primary energy sources that are provided by natural gas.
In addition, the company is now investigating the possibility of producing liquefaction skids in India.
