Gangubai Kathiawadi’ received the UA certification after making a few modifications to the film. Read to find out more.Â
The yet-to-release movie ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ received the Unrestricted with Caution (UA) certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The cinema underwent minor modifications, including the rephrasing and replacing a few words in two of the dialogues and the deletion of two scenes from the movie. A scene that shows our first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, placing a rose on the protagonist has been modified to suit the viewership. Due to the changes made in the film, the latter’s total running time has been reduced by only a few minutes (1-2 minutes). Â
The aforementioned film has been directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It is a biography turned into a crime and drama film produced by Jayantilal Gada and the director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The movie’s screenplay is written yet again by the director of the movie along with Utkarshini Vashishtha and the dialogues by the latter and Prakash Kapadia. The lead role is executed by Alia Bhatt, who enacts the character of Ganga Harjivandas, also known as Gangubai Kathiawadi. Other actors who are part of the movie are- Shantanu Maheshwari, who plays the role of Ramnik Lal (Husband of Ganga), Vijay Raaz, who plays the role of Raziabai, Indira Tiwari, Seema Pahwa, Varun Kapoor, and Jim Sarbh. Apart from these characters, we have cameos played by Ajay Devgn, who plays the role of Karim Lala, the sworn brother of Gangubai, and Huma Quereshi, who plays the role of Dilruba. Â
Furthermore, the film’s music has also been composed by the film director, and the lyrics are written by A.M. Turaz, Bhojak Ashok Anjam, and Kumaar. The two tracks that have been released are: –Â
- Dholida, which is sung by Janhvi Shrimankar and Shail Hada. The lyrics of the song are by Bhojak Ashok Anjam and Kumaar.Â
- Jab Saiyaan, which is sung by Shreya Ghoshal. The lyrics of the song are by A.M. Turaz.Â
This film is inspired by actual events from the life of Ganga Harjivandas, who is publicly known as Gangubai Kothewali. It is set to portray the intricacies of the latter’s life that has been captured in the book- Mafia Queens of Mumbai, authored by S. Hussain Zaidi. Channeling the old-world charm Bhatt, portrays the life of the young Ganga and how she became Gangubai, a well-known mafia boss and madam of a brothel in Kamathipura in the red-light area in the 1960s. The film shows how a young, simple, and naive girl from the town of Kathiawadi had to accept her fate which promised dimness, but she turned it around and played the cards of her life by her own rules. Â
The film is scheduled to be premiered at the worldwide level at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival, which will be held between 10 February 2022 and 20 February 2022. Besides this, the movie will be released on 25 February 2022 across the theatres in the country. Â
