Ever since Prithvi Shaw suspension for a doping violation in the year 2019, after that his discipline has always been under the scanner. Former India cricket team player Gautam Gambhir said that it is the duty of the team selectors and the coaching staff to keep the focus of a player of Prithvi Shaw’s potential and quality.
Prithvi Shaw was last played for Indian Cricket team in a white-ball series in July 2021 in Sri Lanka and has been missing from Indian Cricket squads in all the three formats.

Former Indian team cricketer Gautam Gambhir said that it is the duty and responsibility of the selectors and the coaching staff to keep the focus of a Indian cricket team player of Prithvi Shaw’s quality.
Gautam Gambhir urged the head coach of Indian Cricket team Rahul Dravid, who has worked with him at the Under 19 level to talk to the youngster and monitor Shaw properly. So that he will be the part of the team.

Gambhir said on Star Sports network reporters that, “What are coaches there for? What are selectors there for? (Gautam Gambhir questioned to selectors what they are doing if they are not selecting the talent)” “Not to just select the squad or probably to do those throw-downs or make them ready for the game. Lastly the selectors, coaches and management should try to help these guys. Players like Prithvi Shaw, we all know about their talent. They need to took them on the right track and that is what one of the management jobs. (He tell the Star Sports reporters that Job of management is that they need to make sure that the selected players from coach and management is to help them not only select them but helps to improve them)”
“I am having feeling that it is health and lifestyle issue – whether it’s Rahul Dravid or the selectors – they should actually need to talk to him, give him all clarity and keep him around the main group. People who are on the right path should be around the main group, so that their performance monitored better. Because in the moment you leave them apart, they can go all over the place. (Gautam Gambhir feels that if someone is having fitness and lifestyle issues then whether it’s Rahul Dravid or the chairman of selectors they should talk to him and clear their doubts people who are on right path need to be monitored. We need to leave them apart and let them go all over the place they need to.)
Gautam Gambhir also added in his statement that, “Players like a Prithvi Shaw, the way he started his international career and talent he has, you back a player on talent. Yes, look at the upbringing as well from where he comes and the challenges he face as well. It makes sense for the management and the selectors to keep him around the team, and help him get on the right track. (Player like Prithvi Shaw is having a great talent. If we take a look at his background form where he came from and he had faces then we will know about him. It is also the responsibility of selectors and management to keep him in the team and help him in the all way by which he will be in his form)”
