Veteran Congressman Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned from all of his positions and left the Congress party on Friday. Azad wrote a five-page letter to Sonia Gandhi, the party’s president, stating that the situation in Congress has reached a “point of no return.”
“The entire election procedure for the organisation is a farce and a scam. Elections at any level of the organisation have not taken place anywhere in the nation.” “The cabal that controls the AICC, located at 24 Akbar Road, has forced hand-picked lieutenants of the AICC to sign lists,” said Azad.
He claimed that after Rahul Gandhi entered politics, particularly after he was named the party’s vice president in 2013, “the entire consultative process that was in place earlier was smashed by him.”
“The entire election procedure for the organisation is a farce and a scam. “Elections have not been held at any level of the organisation anywhere in the nation. The cabal that controls the AICC, located at 24 Akbar Road, has forced hand-picked lieutenants of the AICC to sign lists, “said Azad.
When Rahul Gandhi entered politics, especially after being named the party’s vice president in 2013, the speaker claimed that “the entire consultative structure which existed prior was decimated by him.”
All of the party’s senior and experienced leaders were removed, he claimed, and a new group of inept sycophants took over as party leaders.
“The INC has suffered under your leadership since 2014, and then Rahul Gandhi’s INC has lost two Lok sabha seats in elections in an embarrassing style.”
In the 49 assembly elections held between 2014 and 2022, it came in dead last in 39 of them. Despite only winning four state elections, the party was successful in forming coalitions six times. Sadly, the INC currently has power in just two states and only has a very minor coalition partner in the other two. “Since the 2019 elections, things have gotten progressively worse within the party. You took over as temporary president, a post you’ve held for the previous three years, after Rahul Gandhi abruptly resigned, but not before disparaging all the senior party officials who have sacrificed their lives for the party during a meeting of the extended Working Committee. What’s worse is the “remote control model” now being applied to the Indian National Congress, which destroyed the institutional integrity of the UPA government. All significant decisions were being made by Rahul Gandhi or, worse, by his security detail and personal assistant, Azad said.
When I and 22 other senior colleagues, including former Union Ministers and Chief Ministers, wrote to you in August 2020 to alert you to the party’s appalling slide, the coterie decided to unleash its sycophants on us, leading to our attack, vilification, and ultimate humiliation. In truth, my sham funeral procession was carried out in Jammu on the orders of the clique that currently controls the AICC. The government of Delhi applauded those who engaged in this indiscipline by the general secretaries of the AICC and Rahul Gandhi individually.
After that, the same clique sent its goons to physically attack Kapil Sibal’s home, a former ministerial colleague who was, coincidentally, representing you and your family in legal proceedings against your alleged acts of omission and commission, Azad added.
The 23 top leaders who sent the letter out of worry for the party only committed one crime: they did so by outlining both the causes of the party’s shortcomings and possible solutions. Unfortunately, in a specially called meeting of the extended CWC meeting, we were abused, humiliated, insulted, and demonised instead of considering those opinions constructively and cooperatively.
Unfortunately, the situation within the Congress party has deteriorated to the point where proxies are now being supported to take over as party leaders. The party has been so completely shattered that the situation has become irretrievable, so this experiment is certain to fail, he continued. Furthermore, the chosen person would only be a puppet on a string.
In addition, Azad questioned why, in the 75th year of India’s independence, Congress deserved this.
In his letter, which detailed his years of service to the organization, Azad said that he had decided to end his 50-year relationship with the Indian National Congress with “deep grief and a tremendously leaden heart.”
Azad quit last week from the organisational post of Jammu and Kashmir, citing health issues.
