Netflix is producing a long-running series on freedom, says the I&B secretary.Â
 The Union government and Netflix launched a partnership on Tuesday with the release of a two-minute videos on seven women changemakers titled ‘Azadi ki Amrit Kahaniyan‘, while also announcing the production of additional videos and a serial on the Freedom struggle to commemorate the country’s 75th anniversary.Â
At the inauguration event, Information and Broadcasting Minister, Anurag Thakur, said that Netflix will create 25 short videos on a variety of subjects to coincide with the government’s ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ festival. Thakur requested 75 such programmes from Netflix in the presence of Netflix’s chief of global television, Bela Bajaria.Â
Three of the movies’ protagonists – environmentalist Basanti Devi from Pithoragarh, Anshu Jamsenpa, the first woman to summit Mount Everest twice in five days, and Harshini Kanhekar, India’s first female fireman – were also in attendance. Thakur said the videos, which would be narrated by actor Neena Gupta and created by Netflix, will be shared on social media and shown on Doordarshan.Â
  “This effort strives to highlight inspirational tales of Indians, with the hope that these stories would inspire and empower more individuals to pursue their dreams,” he remarked.Â
Apurva Chandra, I&B secretary, said that a long-running series about the Indian freedom fight was in the works as part of the partnership with Netflix.Â
 Mr. Thakur added that the government and Netflix were also collaborating on training sessions for filmmakers, post-production, animation, and music creation. He asked Netflix to establish a content development base in India.Â
 According to Ms. Bajaria, Netflix’s commitment to India is “solid and expanding.” She said the seven videos aired on Tuesday showcased the experiences of women who overcame obstacles to realise their aspirations.Â
Among the protagonists are Poonam Nautiyal, a health worker who worked to vaccinate every child in her Uttarakhand district; Dr. Tessy Thomas, India’s first female scientist to lead a missile project; Tanvi Jagadish, the world’s first competitive female stand-up paddleboarder; and Aarohi Pandit, the world’s youngest and first female pilot to solo cross the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans in a light-sport aircraft.Â
