After a long wait, music’s biggest night is finally happening. The ceremony is all set to take place on Sunday, April 3, 2022, with power-packed performances by BTS, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, and others. The event will be live streamed in India starting at 5:30 a.m. on April 4th. The event will take place in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Comedian and “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah will host the show for a second time. Several major stars will be taking to the stage to present awards, and these include Morbius star and Jared Leto.
There are 86 categories in total, with everyone from Taylor Swift to Barack Obama on the nomination list. Some of the biggest stars have been nominated for eight awards, including Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, and H.E.R, while Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo each have seven nominations.
Some interesting facts about this year’s Grammys
- Olivia Rodrigo is nominated in four categories, and she might as well take all four awards home tonight. She is nominated for best new artist, and her song “Drivers License” is a strong contender for best song of the year and record of the year. The other category she is nominated for is Album of the Year.
- Thanks to a new cover version by Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, Cole Porter’s I Get A Kick Out Of You is running in the record of the year.
- Jazz pianist Jon Batiste is nominated in 11 categories, surpassing everyone else. Till now, only two artists have ever exceeded the tally of 11 nominations- Michael Jackson in 1984 and Babyface in 1997.
- Kanye West has been asked not to perform at the Grammys even though he is invited to the ceremony. The decision was taken into consideration due to his “concerning online behavior,” Variety magazine reported.
- Jay-Z or Ye? Jay-Z is nominated in three categories this year, including two with Ye. Ye’s album of the year nominee, as well as best rap song nominee, “Jail.” Jay-Z has the most Grammys of any hip-hop artist with 23, while Ye has earned 22 Grammys.
- BTS may become the first K-pop Grammy winner. BTS is nominated in the Pop Duo/ Group Performance category for their song “Butter.” Last year, BTS was nominated in the same category for their megahit song “Dynamite”. They lost that category to Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande for their duet “Rain On Me.”
- Arnooj Aftab, a Pakistani musician, is a surprise nominee for the best new artist. “I didn’t think that something like that could happen,” said the 37-year-old before heading to Las Vegas for the ceremony, adding: “I felt like it’s something that should happen.”
- What are the Grammys without Billie Eilish? Billie Eilish has already made history as the first woman to win all four of the main categories in a single night. She is nominated for Album of the Year for Happier Than Ever. The album’s title track is also up for record of the year.
