American actress, singer, and songwriter Selena Gomez is all set to release her documentary “My Mind and Me,” in which she acknowledges her struggles with mental health.
On the occasion of #WorldMentalHealthDay, Selena Gomez shared the trailer of the documentary, Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me, on Apple TV+, offering us an insight into her life and unveiling the other side of stardom and fame.
Directed and produced by Alek Keshishian, the documentary will air on November 4, 2022, on Apple TV+, exploring Selena’s battle with depression and advocating global mental health education and awareness.
“I’ve been working since childhood. I don’t want to be well-known, but if I’m here, I must make the most of it”, – adds the former Disney star in the unpolished, two-minute clip. “Just be who you are, Selena”—these are the lines with which the trailer was aired, embracing the scars that somewhere don’t show up under the flare of the spotlight.
The documentary spans the past few years, involving her time in the hospital tackling health issues such as bipolar disorder, anxiety, and lupus.
Hard-hitting dialogue in the teaser draws attention to Gomez’s frailty. It’s no secret that the star-studded lives of celebrities have a dull side filled with insecurity, dilemmas, and bouts of depression. Selena has come forward with her version of the story, recognizing, in hindsight, the struggle that she faced along the way. Selena said “connection” is what brings her joy. Her story is an example for others to seek help when it’s needed.
Gomez has recently made an effort to give back to the community, in part by tying her commercial operations to philanthropic donations. The Selena + Chef culinary show on HBO Max generates money for charitable causes, and Selena’s Rare Beauty line includes the Rare Impact Fund. Gomez has gathered over 45 billion global streams of her music, and sources claim that she has sold over 210 million songs globally.
The world premiere of the Apple Original Film is set for November 2, 2022, at the 36th edition of AFI, featuring Selena Gomez, a Grammy-nominated singer, Emmy-nominated producer, and award-winning actress who has been in the spotlight ever since she was a young child, and offers an insight into an enlightening and harrowing journey as she deals with the pressures of fame and seeks to highlight, and at the same time, normalize conversations about mental health.
