The GTAForums member who goes by the username “teapotuberhacker” claims to be responsible for the recent Uber hack and now has posted 90+ videos allegedly taken from a test build of Grand Theft Auto 6 that includes “GTA 5 and GTA 6 source code and assets.”
These videos’ screenshots and clips are already circulating on social media platforms like YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, and beyond. They fit data taken from the most recent leak of Grand Theft Auto 6 and a previous leak that has been further included in this article.
Who has acknowledged the leak?
Rockstar Games, the developer of the Grand Theft Auto series, has stated that the GTA6 data that leaked online yesterday, September 18th, is genuine, but that they will not hinder the release.
According to Jason Schreier, a reporter for Bloomberg, the credibility of the hacked footage has been verified. He tweeted, “Not that there was much doubt, but I’ve confirmed with Rockstar sources that this weekend’s enormous Grand Theft Auto VI leak is absolutely genuine.”
The footage is incomplete and raw, of course. This is one of the massive leaks in the history of video games and a nightmare for Rockstar Games.”
Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have already issued DMCA notices against anyone who posts illegally acquired GTA 6 gameplay footage.
A serial offender?
The same hacker that breached Uber’s computers last week also released 90+ video clips of GTA 6 online, sending gamers into a frenzy over the weekend. Both the male and female protagonists were seen in the images, carrying out objectives in a Miami-inspired setting reminiscent of the original Vice City.
The leak includes not only playable content but also debug codes and an interface, lending credence to rumor’s about a sixth Grand Theft Auto game.
The hacker utilized the same social engineering tactic that he employed against Uber to get access to a Rockstar Games employee’s slack account and steal sensitive information.
Players have noticed that the gameplay footage appears to be from a version of the game released in 2017. which is understandable given that the game’s development started in 2014. After the company behind Rockstar Games filed copyright claims against users who uploaded the recordings on social media, the credibility of the leak was further proven.
Upping the ante
The same 18-year-old hacker who broke into Uber’s servers and leaked clips of the company’s Slack conversations to demonstrate the company’s poor security, also claims to have the source codes for Grand Theft Auto 5 and 6. Even if the hacker is willing to sell GTA 5 codes for five figures, he is not selling the source code for GTA 6.
GTA 6 details based on leaked footage
In the leaks, we saw both a male and a female protagonist available for play. It’s possible that this will be the first game in the GTA series to include a female lead character from Rockstar Games. Early gameplay footage revealed the game’s engine, mechanics, and more.
It also appeared from the leaked footage that Rockstar would be returning to Vice City for the first time since the debut of GTA Vice City in October 2002.
A video on Twitter reveals that a player-character named Lucia and an accomplice named Jason rob a waffle business while holding hostages like they’re in Pulp Fiction.
According to sources, the game is set in a fictionalized version of Miami, similar to 2002’s GTA: Vice City and another film that depicts a playable character on the “Vice City Metro” train. A separate clip features a talk by the pool that is similar to dialogue between non-player characters in Red Dead Redemption 2.
In this case, the development build can’t be older than two years because some of the footage appears to be operating on RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3080 cards. Other videos showcase GTA VI on PlayStation 4’s improved NPC interactions, UI, and animations, as well as Rockstar’s in-house debug tools.
Numerous GTA fans are reportedly harassing Rockstar Games employees over the GTA 6 leak
The reaction to this leak has been mixed, but several are unhappy about the leak since the leaked videos are either terrible or not as fantastic as they were expecting they would be.
After this leak, a number of self-proclaimed “GTA 6 fans” have started to harass the developers of GTA. Worst of all, many fans are taking this leak as the completed Rockstar Games product, which has to be one of the most challenging aspects.
Even if Grand Theft Auto joined the online gaming world in 2013, its comeback at a time dominated by PUBG and Fortnite will nonetheless appeal to millennial and GenZ gamers.
