Attacked for Morbi Bridge Tragedy
Rahul Gandhi, the head of the Congress, spoke at two public gatherings on Monday in Gujarat.
In order to support Congress in the approaching Gujarat Assembly election, the party leader took a break from his ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra. The Gandhi scion attacked the governing BJP and spoke about the Morbi Bridge tragedy, farmer loans, and unemployment while addressing the public in Gujarat.
He claimed that the “true criminals” behind the Morbi catastrophe had not been brought to justice and that the BJP adheres to a “corruption and commission model.” On Monday, he spoke at his second election rally, this one in Rajkot. He said that while the watchmen stationed at the accident site were detained and imprisoned, no action was taken against the true offenders.
In light of their “excellent relationship with BJP,” he questioned whether anything would be done about the tragedy’s perpetrators.
Issue of Farmers Stated
He also brought up the subject of farmer loans, claiming that the farmers approached him and enquired as to what mistake they had committed. Farmers have reportedly told Rahul Gandhi that while the government does not forgive their loans of Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh, it does forgive the loans of the “three to four richest figures in India,” which total crores. Rahul Gandhi stated,
“If farmers don’t repay their debts, they are referred to as defaulters, but if crorepatis do the same, it is referred to as non-performing assets, and no action is done against them. He claimed that although farmers invest in the Pradhan Mantri Bima Yojana, they do not receive even a single rupee from the government when they need it most because of natural catastrophes.
Issue Addressed by Rahul Gandhi
Only certain billionaires, according to Rahul Gandhi, may dream freely in India. He claimed that “these two to three billionaires and you know them, they can enter any sector, any company, whether a department store or the airport, a regular person would undergo inflation, corruption, and unemployment if they want to realize their goals.”
The Congress leader also addressed the issue of unemployment, claiming that despite graduating with decent degrees, skilled young people are turning to menial occupations. In his speech in Surat, he changed the subject to tribal people, saying that the BJP wanted to dehumanize them by calling them “forest-dwellers,” but the Congress party wanted to grant the tribes all the rights because they were the “owners of the country.” Additionally, he contrasted the efforts of the two parties in regard to NREGA, claiming that the Congress government had introduced the program for tribals and provided employment to all, but that the BJP had “come and taken the land of the tribals and scammed NREGA.”
Rahul Gandhi took a break from the Bharat Jodo Yatra which started in Tamil Nadu on September 7 and is currently passing through Maharashtra. The yatra is on a two-day break till Tuesday, after which it will resume from Madhya Pradesh.
