Haryana Farm Unions Demand Arrest of Monu Manesar
Numerous farmer unions and Khap panchayats have intervened in the wake of recent communal fighting in Haryana’s Nuh to appeal for peace and to demand the arrest of Monu Manesar, a cow vigilante thought to be involved.
On Wednesday, a maha panchayat was conducted in Bass village of Narnaund town in Hisar district with participation from about 30 khaps of Haryana, leaders of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, other farmer organisations, and individuals of diverse religious backgrounds. Several resolutions about the communal violence in Nuh were passed during this meeting.
They unanimously approved several resolutions, including those calling for the arrest of Bittu Bajrangi and Monu Manesar for using derogatory language to challenge the Muslim community before they participated in a procession; for people of all faiths to abstain from all acts of violence in the future; for members of all social strata to work to promote peace and harmony in their communities affected by the Nuh violence; for a fair investigation into the Nuh communal clash and strict action towards those using provoke.
Online letters that have been attributed to specific panchayat leaders in the districts of Mahendergarh, Rewari, and Jhajjar have recently surfaced. These letters apparently state limitations on Muslim traders conducting business within their own localities.
According to SKM leader Koth, some BJP supporters are attempting to incite disturbances throughout the state, but khaps and farmer unions would not permit them to damage their long-standing relationships.
“We demand action against such miscreants who are destroying the social fabric of society, including the BJP wings that are allegedly disrupting the procession and compelling village chiefs to ask Muslim villagers to leave. Farmers unions and Haryana khaps are standing strongly with each community right now, and they won’t tolerate any disruption of the calm environment, he added.
