Haryana DSP was run over and killed by a truck. The officer was looking into an illegal mining probe, when the driver on site killed him.
DSP Surender Singh was killed by being run over by a dumper truck in Nuh, Haryana. Singh was inspecting an illegal mining site when he was killed.
Surender Singh was an about 59-60 year-old deputy superintendent who was about to retire, posted in the Nuh district of Haryana. On Tuesday, 19th July 2022, Singh was inspecting to shut down illegal mining being carried out in Tauru. Just then a dumper truck trampled over him and killed him.
What happened in Nuh, Haryana?
The police then carried out an extensive search operation to find the perpetrator. Soon after, the police had a standoff, an exchange of fire against the accused. They then arrested one of the accused, who was a cleaner, after he had sustained a bullet wound that evening in Tauru.
At around 11:30am, DSP Surender Singh Bishnoi, who was posted in Tauru in Nuh, obtained information with respect to the illegal mining taking place. He then started out towards the hillock area in Pachgaon as specified in the information he obtained. He headed out with an intention to raid along with his team which included his reader, a gunman and a driver.
After chasing the dumper truck briefly, the truck finally came to a halt. Thereafter, Singh exited his vehicle and walked in front of the truck in order to stop it. The driver of the truck then suddenly increased the speed of the vehicle and ran the DSP over. He was crushed under the truck and succumbed to his injuries. However, the rest managed to get out of the way, said the spokesperson of Nuh police, Krishna Kumar.
Haryana Chief Minister’ statements.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar expressed his condolences over the death of DSP Surender Singh. He also announced that a compensation of Rs 1 crore along with a job to one of the members of Singh’s family will be offered. DSP Surender Singh will also receive ‘martyr status’. Khattar also added that the mafia behind the illegal mining and the subsequent murder will not be spared.
The CM further goes on to state that new police will be posted near all mining areas. The destinations of all mining vehicles and equipment will be predetermined and established. The new posts will be created and set up at inter-state borders.
He also gave his condolences to the family saying that the government stands with them through this grief. Further stating that strict action will be taken against the guilty.
Political opposition was strong after DSP was killed.
The former Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda said that the government is completely responsible for this incident. That the government should take not and make corrective measures. Serious steps must be taken. He also mentions that during the Congress regime there were no such illegal mining sites active. Congress had pulled the plug on all illegal mining.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal later chimed in on the matter as well. Kejriwal, like Hooda also believed that the onus of killing of the DSP falls completely on the Haryana government. Rather the failure of the Haryana government system. In the tweet, Kejriwal also expressed his grief and said that if the police are not safe how will the public be?
As of the 19th of July, Congress has demanded an independent judicial investigation into the matter. https://saladsup.com/ Condemning the functions of the Haryana government, Congress has also suggested the immediate resignation of current Haryana Chief Minister Khattar. The Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that the incident has indeed shaken up the entire country. He says that this is why an independent inquiry into the matter under the supervision of the high court is vital.
