According to the State Disaster Management Authority, at least 367 people have passed away in this monsoon season owing to the persistent Himachal rains.
As per the official data, an average of seven individuals have been losing their lives daily. Due to rain-related happenings, the hilly state has continuously seen the dark side of monsoon since June 24, when the monsoon onset.
Himachal rains has been has been causing huge toll. Numerous people have succumbed to the non-stop rain. Apart from the loss of life, massive property loss has taken a massive toll on the inhabitants.
Himachal Rains: Situation So Far
Himachal Pradesh has been suffering from non-stop and dangerous rainfall since the onset of the monsoon. The residents of the state are disheartened as they endure relentless downpours.
The rain has been causing physical and mental damage through various landslides, as felt most in Kullu, leading to flash floods that could have been born from cloud bursts.
As per Himachal Pradesh’s Disaster Management Authority, more than 367 individuals have lost their lives, while more than 342 others are severely injured.
According to reports, approximately 40 people remain missing.
Himachal Rains: Damages and Casualties
On Sunday, the State Emergency Operation Centre stated, “As many as 281 roads, which includes NH 305, remain blocked due to this incessant rainfall.”
The damage is not limited to road blockages. Even the water supply is disrupted. As many as 177 water supply schemes have been reportedly disrupted.
Additionally, the government data states that in the past 24 hours, no fire incidents occurred in and around Himachal Pradesh.
Besides the considerable number of casualties in the ecologically sensitive hill state of Himachal, the Disaster Management Authority has expected the monetary loss to reach nearly ₹ 12,000 crores.
According to the latest information from the state disaster management authority, 136 individuals have tragically perished due to devastating landslides and flash floods. According to the government, 231 individuals have tragically lost their lives due to road accidents or other causes.
Kullu Landslides Owing to Himachal Rains
Such destruction could be felt in maximum intensity in Kullu. On Thursday, in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu, numerous buildings and houses collapsed after the massive landslide caused by the continuous rainfall in the area.
Various districts in Kullu have closely felt this tremor of brutal landslides. One such district-Anni has been facing a lot of trouble recently.
As per reports, seven buildings near a bus stand collapsed. Frightening videos of the incident are making numerous rounds over the Internet. The video includes heart-shattering visuals that have terrified the residents.
“ Around seven buildings have shattered into pieces. These included four residential and three commercial buildings. No casualties have been reported as the buildings had already been vacated owing to the numerous cracks in the structures,” stated SP Saakshi Verma Kartikeyan.
Himachal Rains: Condition In Shimla
Similar conditions like Kullu have been terrifying the inhabitants at Shimla. The city has struggled to survive numerous landslides for the past few weeks.
As per reports, 20 deaths have been reported in the Summer Hill landslide. Further, seven deaths have been reported from Fagli and Krishna Nagar.
Three major spells of continuous rains have occurred in Shimla. The first spells took place on July 9-10, which caused havoc in areas in and around Mandi and Kullu. The second spell caused devastation in places in and around Solan and Shimla, which was around August 14-15.
The third and final spell so far has been experienced, which took a considerable toll in Shimla city. The third spell began on Tuesday night and is still causing mass destruction.
Himachal Rains Worsen: CM Visits Kullu’s Anni District
The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukku, visited Anni, one of the districts of Kullu, on Friday.
He interacted with several families to grasp the reasons for such destruction and devise strategies to solve the issues. He said that his heart goes out to the survivors of such landslides and that the primary facility will be provided to the residents as swiftly as possible.
While rains are considered an enormous blessing in India, the continuous and untimely rainfall has taken more lives than it could sustain through feeding.
