Two days ago, Mr. Rajendra Singh Gudha was removed from the cabinet and from his position where he served as the minister of state. This happened hours after he spoke at the State assembly about the crime incidents reported against women in Rajasthan . It is said that he tried to draw parallels between the recent case of sexual violence that took place in Manipur and the claimed atrocities against women in Rajasthan. Mr. Rajendra Gudha has always criticised the state government’s functioning and the actions that are taken by it.
He believes that the action so taken against him by Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who recommended the matter of removing the former to the Governor Kalraj Mishra, was to punish him for speaking the truth. According to the former cabinet minister, the government of Rajasthan should accept the truth that it failed to protect the women residing in the state in accordance to the number of crime incidents that are reported frequently.
All these statements were primarily recorded by ANI News channel.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, while speaking to ANI, also said that the “law and order situation has collapsed”. Thereby meaning that the current scenario in Rajasthan is such that atrocities against women is only increasing which makes this state the most unsafe one for the women. Recently on July 19 of this year, four family members that included a six-month-old daughter were killed by the nephew of the head of the victim’s family over a land dispute issue.

Crime against women in India
On March 15 of this year, the central government had informed Parliament that approximately 1 crore cases of crime incidents against women were registered in the last five years in India. Yet, about 98% of cases regarding sexual violence go unreported before the authorities as per an analysis done by Livemint in the year 2018. The violence involves women being subjected to sexual harassment, domestic violence, dowry deaths, honour killings, human trafficking, rape and kidnappings.
Recently in the month of may, a 16-year-old girl was stabbed 21 times by her alleged boyfriend in Bulandshahr district, UP with the public passing by while not even stepping ahead to help the victim. In another incident, a 48-year-old woman was attacked by her son-in-law with a frying pan which ultimately resulted in her death due to serious injuries on her face and skull. This extreme step was taken due to the frustrations over the care-taking responsibilities.
