In the Hyderabad gang-rape case, police said a complaint was filed against Telangana MLA M Raghunandan Rao for disclosing the identity of the victim by uploading images and a video clip.Â
On Tuesday, police said they had filed a case against a BJP MLA for disclosing images and a video of the victim in a gang-rape case in Hyderabad.
M Raghunandan Rao was charged under section 228-A (disclosure of identify) of the IPC after a complaint was filed accusing him of revealing the identity of a juvenile girl by uploading images and a video clip, according to them.
At a press conference on June 4, the BJP legislator stated that the youngster featured in the alleged video was the son of an AIMIM MLA.
He claimed that an AIMIM MLA’s son was engaged in the gangrape and stated that they had additional proof to prove the “MLA’s son” connection. However, he stated that the girl’s face was covered and that the survivor’s identity could not be determined from the video.
According to Komireddy, after the press conference, photographs and videos of the girl went viral on social media. Rao’s media appearances were in violation of Supreme Court orders as well as Section 74 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, which prohibits the disclosure of a child’s identity in any form of media… Section 23 of the POCSO [Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses] Act, 2012. states that no information or photo of a child should be published in any form of media.”
Rao had stated that he was not afraid of any case. He went on to say that neither the images nor the videos showed the girl’s face or any other identifying markings, nor did they indicate her name. “I released the photos and video in order to bring the criminals to justice.” There is a plot to protect the leaders of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and their children who were involved in the tragedy.
The teen girl, who went to a pub in Hyderabad for a daytime party on May 28, was allegedly raped by five people, of whom three were minors.
The girl was sexually assaulted in a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) after the suspects offered to drive her home.
In connection with the case, four people have been arrested so far.
The police are looking for another suspect who is still out of custody. One of the teen boys implicated is said to be the son of a powerful official.
