The US representative’s visit to Islamabad was dogged by controversy on Wednesday. The stir was over Ilhan Omar’s meeting with the ex-prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan.
The root of the controversy lay in Imran Khan’s previous claims of being conspired against by Washington. The meeting reminded the journalists of his claims about his government being forced out due to them.
Who is Ilhan Omar?
Ilhan Omar is a US congresswoman who is a Somali-American lawmaker. In the US House of Representatives, she represents Minnesota. Her visit to Islamabad is the first visit since the new government took over last week, by an American legislature.
She met many Pakistani leaders like President Arif Alvi, PM Shehbaz Sharif, and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf. But it was Ilhan Omar’s meeting with Imran that caused so much stir.
The criticism was led by Rana Sanaullah, the Interior Minister, who insinuated a conspiracy was being hatched. He also impressed upon him to share the details because the nation should know the truth.
