12 people were arrested by the Kolkata Police with respect to allegations of duping several foreigners, mostly US citizens on the pretense of selling them a variety of services and products. A raid operation led to the seizing of the call center and the arrest of the convicts.
The Kolkata Police captured 12 people on the basis of allegations of duping foreign nationals, especially from the US on the pretense of offering them to sell a variety of services and goods. The arrest was preceded by a raid operation conducted by the police which led to the seizing of an illegal call center that was operating from the Regent Park area.
In the year 2020, the Regent Park Police arrested SK Vinod, a recorded history-sheeter on the basis of allegations of running an illegal call center in Azadgarh, which was succeeded by the cops seizing two more fake call centers that were executing their plans from Pratapaditya Road in Tollygunge and the Cooperative Building in Pragati Maidan. According to the police, several numbers of fake call centers have been seized in Bengal over the last couple of years, especially in Kolkata.
Recently, an illegal call center was seized on June 16 by the Gurugram Police which was functioning from a house located in the residential area within Palam Vihar in Gurugram. It was working without a license issued by the Department of Telecommunications(DOT) and worked via sending fraudulent emails to various foreign nationals by using names of different companies. In a similar way, the seized call center worked on cheating foreign nationals under the pretense of providing technical assistance. While committing the fraud, they used to introduce themselves as a quality service provider of the company they asserted to work for.
