Delhi High Court orders that there are 8 rogue websites that illegally streams the Indian Premier League crickets matches to be held in 2022
In the case of Star India Pvt. Ltd. And Anr. V. Live.Flixhub.net and ors. , plaintiff filed the suit for permanent injunction for restraining the broadcasting rights. The plaintiff asked injunction against the various rogue websites.
Evidence provided by the plaintiff
Footage screenshot of previous cricket matches including West India tour of India 2022 and Sri Lanka Tour of India 2022 which were aired without any kind of authorization by the rogue websites.Ā Ā
Rights of the Plaintiff
Plaintiff acquires the exclusive media rights in which there were Mobile Activation Rights and ancillary rights for the IPL matches. These rights are acquired by the plaintiff for the particular period which is from 1st January 2018 to 30th September, 2022 ( 5 years period).Ā There was a large amount of loss which was caused to the plaintiff inspire of owning the exclusive rights.
Court’s verdict
āConsidering the fact that Indian Premier League (IPL) series/ TATA IPL 2022 is stated to be starting w. e. ff.Ā 26th March, 2022, there is imminent need to protect the Plaintiff’s investment as also to ensure that these Rogue websites do not stream illegally the cricket matches of TATA IPL, 2022.ā
āThe said websites shall also stand blocked with immediate effect,Ā upon notice being issued to the ISP’s that such an affidavit has already being filed before this court.ā
āDoT and MEITY shall also issue orders for blocking these websites, in accordance with todayās order.ā
āThe court is also prima facie satisfied that the injunction deserve to be granted against any further websites which may suddenly emerge,Ā showing pirated content or start streaming TATA IPL 2022 illegally and unauthorisedly.ā
