As the new parliament building’s construction is completed. The inauguration was held today with the start of puja and prayer ceremonies, as done and given importance in Indian culture and tradition. Then followed up with the transfer of Sengol by Adheenam to the Prime Minister of the country, symbolising the transfer of power during the inauguration ceremony of the new parliament. The inauguration ceremony of the new parliament starts with the puja and offering of prayers for the new start, which is a given priority in Indian culture and tradition and is given the utmost priority before starting any good deed. The puja ceremony was held early, at 7:30 a.m., with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The event is further followed by the transfer and receiving of the Sengol from 21 Dharmapuram Adheenam from Chennai, who handed over the Sengol, the symbol of “the rule of dharma,” to the Prime Minister, who further installed the same in the Lok Sabha’s Chamber in the new parliament building.
Prime Minister Narenda Modi further received blessings and wishes from the seers of different Adheenams in the state of Tamil Nadu. The event was followed by the unveiling of the plaque to mark the inauguration of the new parliament building. On this occasion, a felicitation ceremony was also held to appreciate the efforts and hard work of the workers involved in the construction and development process of the new parliament building.
“Sav-Dharam” prayers are also upheld during the ceremony to pay tribute to every religion in the country. During the whole ceremony process, the opposition was in an unsupportive mood. They have decided to boycott the ceremony for the inauguration of the new parliament building. 20 opposition parties, including Congress, Aam Admi Party, Shiv Sena, Trinamool Congress, and Janta Dal, decided not to participate in the ceremony.
The Sengol
Sengol stands for righteousness. The term is derived from the Semmai word, which stands for right action and good deeds. The Sengol is a symbol of “the rule of dharma”. It is a screed that has historic importance as it shows the transfer of power from the British to India.
It took place for the first time when Sengol was received by former Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru. And this time, the contemporary Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the symbol of justice and impartial rule. Situate it in the new Parliament building. Before that, the sengol was housed in the museum in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj.
The new Parliament building
As a part of India’s Central Vista Redevelopment Project, it was decided to renew and redevelop. Construction and redevelopment of the new parliament building are two of them.
