New Zealand defeats India by 18 runs in the Women International T20I on Wednesday
The one-off T20I IND v/s NZ was held on Wednesday, 9 February 2022, at the John Davies Oval in Queenstown. New Zealand won the match by 18 runs. The match started at 5.30 am IST, with the toss at 5 am IST. India won the toss and chose to bowl.
New Zealand had scored 155 runs with the loss of 5 wickets. India had a target of 156 runs. India scored 137 runs and lost 8 wickets when they reached the finishing line.
Shafali Verma and Yastika Bhatia had a partnership in the women opening where they could score 41 runs. In the chase, India did not manage to hold the momentum. S Meghana scored 37 runs quickly, but the rest of the batters could not score well, and India achieved the score of 137 runs in 20 overs.
After the game, Harmanpreet stated, “I think we were in the game when we were bowling, but the last few overs didn’t go in our favor and didn’t get any partnerships with the bat as well. A lot to learn from this, and hopefully, we will get better in the next few games. Playing at the same venue (for ODIs) definitely helps us”.
India and New Zealand will now play a five-match ODI series which begins Saturday, February 12. It was supposed to be held on Friday, February 11, but to give more time to both the teams, the match was scheduled one day later.
