Origins of the pageant
Mrs. World is a pageant for married women. Established in 1984, the pageant celebrates beauty and grace in women.
The Mrs. World official account posted “The long wait is over, it’s after 21 years we have the CROWN back!”. “We’ve got the crown back after 21-22 years. I’m so excited. Love you India, love you world,” Mrs. Sargam Koushal said.
Aditi Govitrikar was the last Indian winner of Mrs World. She brought home the crown in 2001.
Aditi Govitriikar sent a heartfelt congratulations post to Sargam Koushal on social media. It read, “Heartiest congratulations @sargam3 @mrsindiainc so happy to have been part of the journey… it was time the crown came back after 21 years.”
For the final round Sargam Koushal wore a gorgeous gown made of pind sparkles. It had a slit up the middle and was form fitting, showing off her toned figure.
The Mrs world pageant was established in 1984. From 1984 to 1987 it was known as the Mrs Woman of the World pageant. It later changed its name to Mrs World in 1988. Mrs World is the biggest marital pageant there is. It was founded by David Marmel. It has its headquarters in California, USA.
The pageant is held in venues all over the world like Las Vegas, USA; Johannesburg, South Africa; Sochi, Russia; Aamby Valley, India; Jerusalem, Israel; San Jose, Costa Rica, Brisbane, Australia; etc.
Most of the winners of Mrs World have come from the United States of America. No pageants were held in the years 1985, 1990 to 1994, 1996 to 1998, 2004, 2010, 2012, and 2015.
Past controversies
In April 2021, Caroline Jurie, the outgoing 2019-2021 Mrs. World winner and former Mrs. Sri Lanka World, was the subject of global controversy.
This occurred when she pulled the crown off from the head of Pushpika De Silva, 2021 Mrs. Sri Lanka World winner, declaring that the winner should be married but not divorced.
Jurie wrongly assumed that Pushpika De Silva was divorced, where in reality she was actually just estranged from her husband. She believed that this automatically disqualified De Silva from winning the pageant and she yanked the crown off from her head and gave it to the runner up, who then wrongfully assumed that she had won the pageant and gave her acceptance speech. De Silva ran off the stage in tears.
De Silva and the Mrs World organisers later confirmed that she was not divorced, thus could not be disqualified from participating. She was reinstated as winner and the panel would be investigating matters thereafter.
De Silva later sued Jurie for humiliation and head injuries caused by ripping the crown off from her head.
