Internal Stability is decided by The nature of political administration in a nation
The father of our nation articulated that Politics and Religion are inseparable in India, the primitive observation is directly associated with the rich (religious) diversity in our nation.
This was also a major factor to declare India as a secular country in 1974 (forty-second amendment) after realizing the gravity of volatilities and conflicts post-independence.
But the past lessons seem to be fading away in recent times.
Impact of religious laws on social stability
Challenges in Indian society
India has a long history of ethnic divide in society since ancient times, but unlike other ancient civilizations Indian society was harmonic, tolerant and humane. The ancient dynasties prioritized patriotic concepts by respecting every religion.
Until the concept of religious separation to satisfy administrative clout was seeded by the British. This was the same seed which triggered Mohammad Ali Jinnah to demand Pakistan and have a parallel throne for him.
Henceforth, since then India has been witnessing several riots, communal violence and targeted killings aftermath.
Causes of deteriorating internal stability at present
- The root cause of the post-independence religious tussle erupted with the Ayodhya title dispute (Ram Janmabhoomi case) 1949 this led to the establishment of Places of Worship Act 1991.
Permitting exemptions under the act instigated religious rivalries in society, but apart from this, the post-judicial and legislative actions seem to favor religious bias for politics.
-
- Firstly, several updates over Ram mandir flooded the media after the recent judgement of the Supreme Court (9 Nov 2019) which went in favor of Ram mandir, several government officials donated funds and the construction was initiated immediately.
But the same focus was absent for the Babri Masjid foundation, there was no grand celebration for the foundation laying ceremony (Embed ) and no further progress due to shortage of funding.
-
- Secondly, the Gyanvapi mosque was also included under the exemption under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958, though there are certain contradictions for this.
- Further, the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019, was dissented by the Muslim communities in Jammu and Kashmir who were willing to migrate to India, this was immediately fueled by the post-effects of Revoking J&K’s special status (2019) which was factored by:-
-
- The agitation of the J&K population for being deprived of internet, unrestricted news media and the long delay in allocating statehood.
- This was fueled by the terror recruits to radicalize the desperate youth.
- Further, the rise in Taliban has amplified foreign terror outfits in the region, as reported by the outgoing DGP Kuldeep Singh (on 29 Sep 2022).
- The Law permitting the demolition of residences of rioters implemented by certain states is a grave violation of the Fundamental Right of life (residence) under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution.
The invidious manner of issuing notice to the demolition of homes leaving no time to seek legal aid, and inhumanely demolishing the property of physically challenged individuals of the same religion by inculpating them under groundless reasons, depict the State led oppressions.
- Apart from this the Anti-conversion law which prevents religious conversion solely for marriage (exempted “only if such conversion is endorsed by the family of the person getting converted, with a notice in advance of one month is issued to the District Magistrate), has created controversies and caused honor killings.
- The other trivial issue of the use of loudspeakers in the mosque mushroomed under the shadow of the other rotting incidents. Surprisingly this issue was not found any time in the past but evoked recently due to poisoning of the religious tolerance led by politics.
- And the Hijab dress code which was not a problem in several educational institutions until the verdict from Karnataka High Court is very evident in the politicization of religion.
When observed the Hijab issue was even endorsed by the Taliban for adhering to Islamic principles, while the same Taliban has remained mute over the unrest in Iran.
The role of politics
The ruling party has been favoring the non-minority religion, while the non-ruling parties have resorted to backing up the minorities thus abetting anti-national organizations like PFI to trigger against the ruling party.
Although the intention is limited to the political domain, these radical organizations leverage such an opportunity to have cross-border terror links and destabilize the nation to achieve their agendas.
Thus, the root cause of destabilizing social security and public order is voracious politics
