In a sudden surge in covid19 cases, the country reported nearly 12,899 cases in the last 24 hours. In a span of 24 hours, there was an increase in 4,366 cases which takes the daily positivity rate to2.89 percent.

According to the data revealed by the Union health ministry, India on Sunday recorded 12,899 fresh coronavirus cases. This pushed the tally of infections to 4,32,96,692 in total. The number of active cases stands at 72,474. The data updated till the evening of Sunday stated that there were 15 fatalities, and the death toll has risen to 5,24,855. The active cases comprise 0.17 percent of the total infections. According to data received from the health ministry, the recovery rate stands at 98.62 percent. India has so far conducted an 85.78 crore cumulative test.
India’s covid-19 vaccination has passed 196.14cr ( 1,96,14,88,807) as per reports received till 7pm today. This has been achieved through 2,53,09,999 sessions.
India’s vaccination drive
The vaccination drive throughout the country was started on 16th January 2021, with healthcare workers getting vaccinated in the first phase. The next phase of vaccination started on March 1, 2021, when the senior citizens and people above 45 years with specified comorbid conditions were given the dose. On 1st April 2021, India started vaccination for all people who are above 45 years.
The government then took a decision to expand the vaccination drive, by giving a green signal to everyone above 18 years. On 16th March 2022, the government started vaccination for children from 12- 14 years. As of now, more than3.57 a crore (3,57,212,007) adolescents have been administered the 1st dose of the covid-19 vaccine. The precaution dose, for 18-59 years started on 10th April 2022.
Actions from government
Due to the sudden spark in cases across the country, the Union Government has asked all the states and union territories to report influenza-like illness and SARI cases in all hospitals on regular basis. The health ministry has also ordered all the states to continue with the vaccination drive for all the eligible people.
