India took a 2-0 series lead over Australia, by winning the 2nd Test hosted in Delhi with a 6-wicket victory, in this early Sunday. Virat Kohli became the fastest batsman to score 25,000 international runs in 549 innings surpassing the great Sachin Tendulkar’s record who made it in 577 innings.
The most of the credit should go to two of the spinners, specifically Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. As a result of India’s win over Australia, the chances of advancing to the finals of the WTC have greatly increased for team India.
Match Report : As it happened
The home team bowled out Australia for 113 runs early on Sunday, with seven wickets from Ravindra Jadeja and three from Ravichandran Ashwin. Mohammed Shami was absolutely fantastic with the ball during the first innings, and Ashwin and Jadeja demonstrated the same level of excellence over both innings.
Australia scored 263 in their first innings with the help of Usman Khawaja’s 81 along with Peter Handscomb’s decent 71 runs they took a run lead by bowling out India on 262.
The Australian spinners went on to a good start in the first innings with Nathan Lyon leading the Kangaroos by taking a fifer in the first innings. India were reduced down to 66-4. But with Axar Patel’s 114 run partnership with Ravi Ashwin settled the score to 262.
An overall good performance was given by India’s skipper Rohit Sharma along with other players, which resulted in a victory against Australia on the third day of the second test match. Cheteshwar Pujara, who was participating in his 100th Test match at the time, scored the runs that won the game and finished the match without being defeated.
What did the Indian skipper say after their victory over Australia?
The Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma in the post-match conference said, “Looking at how things were yesterday, the way we came back and finished our job was great. Even if we were just one run behind, I felt we were trailing because we had to bat last.’
He further added, “I think the bowlers were fantastic, to take 9 wickets today morning is commendable. And then we finished the job with the bat. There are lot of moments across four innings, but I thought the partnership between Jadeja and Virat, and then Axar-Ash was brilliant. I think that’s a big help because of the balance we have created for ourselves.”
Is Ravinder Jadeja having dream comeback for India?
On Sunday, India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja won a match award for the ninth time in Test cricket after being named Player of the Match in the first Test match that took place in Nagpur. The 34-year-old player was the most worthy candidate after altering the match in the morning session today. This is the first time that Jadeja has won back-to-back Test match accolades.
The southpaw’s career-best bowling stats of 12.1-1-42-7 were the only reason that India were able to knock Australia for 113 in 31.1 overs. This allowed India to win the match.
It wouldn’t be unfair to say that Jadeja’s second 10-wicket haul in a Test match must have wounded the visitors mentally more than just losing two matches would have done. This is because the tourists lost nine wickets in less than an hour for the second time on the tour.
Will Australia make a comeback on the third test at Indore or India will keep dominating the Border-Gavaskar trophy?
