For Akula Sreeja, it was her first ever medal in the Commonwealth games. It was a good showing for her as she took the center stage in the Finals to win the gold medal.
Sharath Kamal had earlier made it to the men’s singles final and also was in the men’s double. Sharath had to settle for silver in the Men’s double.
Akula Sreeja is the star of India’s women’s paddler. Sreeja lost the singles for the bronze medal playoffs but she redeemed herself with the mixed double gold medal.
Sharath Kamal played 2 matches in the day and was happy to give the show to Sreeja who took the center stage and played really good against the relatively inexperienced pairing.
Sharath defeated England’s Paul Drinkhall in the six hard-fought games in the semi-fin. But got bested by the England no.1 Liam Pitchford in the finals.
Single’s men finals were very difficult for Sharath as Pitchford was too fast and aggressive for him.
