Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth and the pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty from Indian men’s badminton team defeated Indonesia at 3-0 as they won their First ever Maiden Thomas Cup as India to be considered as the most successful team of all times.
At the first game, Lakshya got defeated with 8-21 who was playing against Anthony Ginting and the pair Satwik and Chirag were playing against other pair Kevin Sukamuljo and Mohammad Ahsa also got defeated by 18-21. But from the second game, the Indian made a strong comeback with force and defeated their opposition’s with 21-17 and 21-16 by Lasksya and 23-21 and 21-19 by the Indian pair.Â
Srikanth who was unbeaten throughout the tournament won the game against Jonatan Christie by 21-15, 23-21 which ranked India on world no. 8.
Match against Malaysia and DenmarkÂ
At first, Lakshya was slightly I’ll towards Malaysia and Denmark which gave good points to them. Gittin took the opportunity and grabbed as many points as he could but later, Lakshya made a strong comeback.
He traced 21-17 points ahead which definitely showcased his energy and enthusiasm towards the game.Â
After a small break, the Indian pair were close to 9-11, the opposition pair Kevin and Ahsan made a strong comeback which stunned the Indians.Â
The Indonesian pair made 19-14, after a few time the points equalled with 20-20 but after a cross court shot by Chirag gave India 2-0 Lead.
The winning team
Next, the eye was on Srikant to make sure India did not lose this golden opportunity. As the scoreboard reflected the same score 9-9, Srikanth gained 6 points in the opening game against Christie.
In the second game, Christie was closer to securing more points than 6 (gained by Srikant), Srikant played his serve and gave India the most memorable points for winning the Maiden Thomas Cup title.Â
