India’s External Affairs Minister S.Jaishankar expressed his condolences with Indonesia over the loss of numerous lives after the severe Java earthquake that killed scores of people and also endured for the speedy recovery of the people injured.
S. Jaishankar said that India stands in solidarity with Indonesia and its thoughts are with the deprived families.S. Jaishankar said that he felt saddened to hear news about the loss of life and property because of the earthquake in Java, Indonesia. Indonesia Earthquake
On Monday morning, a shallow 5.6 magnitude earthquake hit Indonesia’s western fiefdom of West Java at a shallow depth of 10km, stated the United States Geological Survey( USGS).At least 46 people died in an earthquake that hit Indonesia’s main island Java on Monday, Channel News Asia reported citing an Indonesian government functionary.
The earthquake’s epicentre was on land in Cianjur, about 75 km southeast of Jakarta. According to CNA citing several reports, about 700 people were injured in the West Java city. Many injured were taken to the hospitals, some were even treated outside in a hospital car park after the hospital was left without power for many hours after the earthquake, unfortunately scores succumbed to their injuries.
Heram Suherman, the head of the administration in Cianjur told the broadcaster Kompas TV that the rearmost data showed that 46 people were killed and the victims kept coming from numerous areas. Around 700 people were injured because of the high magnitude earthquake. He also previously told another regional broadcaster, Metro TV, that numerous of the injured had undergone bone fractures from being trapped by the ruins of buildings.
A 5.6 magnitude earthquake rattled the Indonesian capital of Jakarta which is about 100 kms away from Cianjur for quite a few seconds yesterday. Fortunately, according to the country’s weather agency, the eventuality for the tsunami was negligible. About 13,000 people had been displaced by the quake and as per Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), more than 2,200 residences had collapsed.

It sits on the “ring of fire” area of tectonic activity in the Pacific Ocean and also has a former history of destructive earthquakes and tsunamis in the Sulawesi quake.
