The Delhi Jal Board says various areas are likely to be affected by problems relating to water supply especially in north Delhi, northwest Delhi, West Delhi, and parts of South Delhi.Ā
The production has been affected at the water treatment plants at Haiderpur and Bawana, which has taken a serious hit on Delhiās water supply. Many areas in Delhi are likely to be affected by water shortage till the situation improves.Ā
The Delhi Jal board endeavours to rationalize the water supply is going on, however, the situation occurred due to the depletion of pond level at Wazirabad and maximum possible diversion from CLS towards Wazirabad, and flow fluctuation in DSB. The Clearwater production has been affected by water treatment plants at Haiderpur, phase I, Phase II, and Bawana. Ā
On 12 May, the Haryana irrigation department responded to the Delhi Jal Boardās request for additional water. Stating that Haryana is supplying Delhiās right full share of water and that the shortage of water at Wazirabad if any is solely due to internal mismanagement of water by the Delhi Jal Board and Haryana has no role to play in it.Ā
The condition of the nationās capital has taken a blow in such a way that even the neighbouring states like Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh have backed out from the plant to give extra water to Delhi. Initially, the plan was that the national capital will be given 140 million gallons a day of treated wastewater in exchange for freshwater from Uttar Pradesh. But they point out that the center was in favour of the proposal but Uttar Pradesh denied it.Ā
Delhi has been facing a lot of trouble with its water supply as the Yamuna is nearly drying up due to the immense heatwaves the city has been facing this year. With people increasing their desperation for water that people are chaining their cans after filling water from the tankers sent by the Delhi Jal Board to help them out a bit.Ā
