- The 21st of September is marked as the International Day of Peace all around the world.
- It was initially established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981.
- First International Peace Day was observed in 1982.
- Later in 2001, the official date for International Peace Day was declared as 21st September.
- Until then it was held on the inaugural session of the annual General Assembly- the third Tuesday of September.
Purpose
- The day is devoted to the Peace of the World.
- It is observed to reinforce the ideals of Peace.
- It specifically marks the 24 hours of Global Ceasefire and Non-Violence.
- To bring awareness about the importance of Peace in the mindsets of People.
How it is Celebrated
- The traditional PEACE BELL is tolled on the first day of Spring and on the 21st of September to celebrate the day for Peace.
- Global one-minute silence is observed at Mid-day to create a “PEACE WAVE” across the world.
- United Nations arrange programs all over the world.
History of the Peace Bell
- The Peace Bell was donated to the United Nations headquarters in 1954.
- The PEACE BELL is made with coins and medals donated by people across the globe.
- It stands over 3 feet tall and is 116 kg in weight.
- The bell was modeled after the Hanamido (the place where Buddha was born).
- The bell is considered to be the symbol of Peace.

It is important to promote Racial Equality. It ensures that everyone can lead a normal life regardless of their ethnic background.
Racist attitudes are taught to people, they do not naturally possess them. It is entirely within our control to create a stable society for the next generation.
