International Day of Education is observed on January 24 every year to celebrate the role of education in peace and evolution. Today we are celebrating the 4th International Day of Education.
THEME Of International Education Day
This Year is “Changing Course, Transforming Education”.
The objective of this theme is to support the revitalization of academia wholeheartedly. In 2020-21, education will see a vast discrepancy in its traditional and formal form. The Covid19 wave that erupted in China and closed all educational institutions engulfed the world.
All activities, particularly educational activities, stayed undercover and were frozen. Now, a glimmer of hope had emerged when our age, who suffered greatly during the Covid-19 time. Hence coined the term “Covid-19 generation,” began to attend school, colleges, and universities.
The healing process from the epidemic is to return to work and health. Psychological rehabilitation is only possible if our education is reestablished. It is the most crucial key.
Knowledge is so fundamental that we mandate it to avoid virus contamination. We should educate ourselves on health issues and the health of the surrounding population.
Consequently, education is always significant. The 2022 International Day of Education theme also stresses the accomplishment of everyone’s fundamental right to education. This will contribute to the formation of a more ecological, inclusive, and peaceful future. Its relevance must be recognized due to the significant benefits of our generation.
On January 24, 2019, this day was commemorated for the first time. The UNGA established this special day to encourage all countries to strengthen their political commitment to education to get a comprehensive education.
The theme of the first-year celebration in 2019 was
Education: An essential river for inclusion and empowerment echos UN High-level political form’s focus.
The theme of the second year 2020 was
“Learning for people, planet, prosperity, and peace.
The theme of the previous year 2021 was
“Recover and Revitalize education for the COVID-19 generation.
Education is a fundamental right and a social benefit and responsibility. The UN’s purpose is to encourage education as part of necessities and privileges, human obligations, responsibilities.
History of Celebrating International Education Day
The First-Ever International Education Day
The first-ever International Day of Education was observed on January 24, 2019. The International Day of Education will be honored for the 4th time this year to emphasize that education is one of everyone’s basic needs.
By vigilantly recognizing it, the UN General Assembly has enabled it to preach its message to every corner of the globe and reflected an apparent influence. It also suggests that education is for the benefit and well-being of an educated individual, a civilized individual. Thus a civilized community is endowed with opportunities and hope.
Significance and the importance of celebrating International Education Day
In my perspective, celebrating International Education Day is significant. This day plays a crucial role in human life. The day is identifying and informing the population worldwide about the importance of education. This is the fourth year of celebrating International Education.
When students cannot attend the classes, physically celebrating this day becomes more critical to give the psychological enhancement. The right direction for the students. Because for the last two years, students are attending online classes that are not beneficial.
It is just a formality because students had no practical knowledge in their field. Students of nursery school don’t even know how to attend online classes. Their parents are taking classes on their behalf. So that is why celebrating this day has become more critical, in my opinion.
Why is Education Day celebrated?
The International Community emphasizes its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in its adopted charter. As a result, this day serves as a blanket that protects and covers many other UN goals.
The message delivered through it has a wide variety of impacts and authority. The first and most crucial reason to observe this day is that education is critical to achieving all 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Poverty is one of the many difficulties and shortfalls that the UN must address. It is fascinating, if not shocking, to learn that in many nations, especially 3-world countries, the percentage of poverty is nearly equal to the rate of illiteracy.
There is a well-known Chinese figure. Proverb: Instead of giving your fish to someone to help him, teach him how to catch a fish, and it will make a huge difference. The UN cannot eliminate poverty overnight. Still, it can provide opportunities to reduce its impacts. Education is one of the essential tools it can use.
Education and the Era of Covid-19
Covid-19 is a respiratory disease that originated in China and has now spread to every corner of the globe. This lethal disease spread so quickly and in such an odd way that it shook the entire world.
Millions of individuals were affected, and the majority was confined promptly to their homes. The sickness spread through the air and through contact with other persons or objects where the virus became a resident, what they couldn’t do.
The Covid-19 pandemic showed us that education for our generation is not solely dependent on institutions and public sources such as literature. Education must not be halted under challenging circumstances. therefore, the online study continues through devices such as mobile phones and PCs. with no risk of being infected with the virus.
During the Pandemic, Education was a tool that brought hope and employment. Children suffered, but online education also met their demands. Covid-19 impacted the institutes, but it could have an even more significant impact in the future, not extinguish the minds.
