Rajasthan Royals won their first game of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Tuesday, 29.03.22 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.
A complete batting domination from the Rajasthan Royals dominated the bat to reach a mammoth score of 210-6 against the RR bowlers. Rajasthan Royals, led by Yuzvendra Chahal reduced the Sunrisers, on the other hand could only score 149 runs with 7 wickets down.
Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma, who opened for Sunrisers Hyderabad, took in some fierce bowling from the bowlers Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna.
The SRH skipper was the first victim after Williamson was caught by Devdutt Padikkal, who managed to take a juggling catch in the slips, off Krishna’s bowling. Devdutt Padikkal earned a 2nd wicket in the form of Rahul Tripathi, who nicked the ball back to the keeper.
The Sunrisers were not having a good day at the field. They were at 14-3 at the end of the powerplay. Aiden Markram joined opener Abhishek Sharma in between.
Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was introduced into the attack. He struck immediately after Sharma miscued the lofted shot, caught by the long-on fielder.
At the 10th over, SRH were at 36 runs at 4 wickets and things went all the more downtown for them. Abdul Samad got caught by Hetmyer. Hetmyer took a simple catch as Chahal got another wicket of the innings.
In the 14th over, Markram and Romario came together and smashed some sixes against Nathan Coulter-Nile. Shephard’s innings closed right after Chahal hit the stumps of the right-handed batter and got a 3rd wicket.
It was becoming more and more difficult for SRH to keep chasing the target with the required run rate. Washington Sundar, hit 24 runs off the 17th over. The left-handed all-rounder timed the ball and hit some miraculous shots with 4 fours and a six in the same over.
Sundar added another four and a six to the run total and managed to lower the target for SRH. Against their will and luck, the batter was caught by Boult, ending the fire shots SRH desperately needed.
With a four and a six in the final over of the innings, Markram finished his stoic half-century with a 4 and a 6. SRH still needed 62 more runs to claim victory.
RR’s Rollercoaster Batting
Rajasthan Royal’s chase looked a lost cause from the outset as all three overseas batsmen Ben Stokes, Uthappa and Samson returned to the benches with not much contribution in the powerplay.
It was Rahul Tewatia and Riyan Parag who attacked the opposition with their skills. Parag ensured RR is listed among the top teams of the tournament as he played commendably and ended with a six as well.
Riyan Parag along with Shimron Hetmyer at the crease carried on dominating the bat for the Royals in the 17th over. Hetmyer hammered consecutive sixes against Bhuvneshwar Kumar to surpass the 200-run mark.
