At a press conference, Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson of Iran’s Foreign Ministry, made comments to journalists
In comments that were the nation’s first public remarks on the assault, an Iranian government officer refused to accept on Monday that Tehran was involved in the attack on author Salman Rushdie.
The remarks by Naseer Kanaani come after two days of the assault on Salman Rushdie in New York. “The author has been removed from the ventilator and is on the road to recovery,” said his agent.
Still, Iran has refused to carry out other functions abroad attacking protestors in the years after the nation’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, regardless of solicitors and western governments’ mentioning of this kind of attack back to Tehran.
And while Iran has not concentrated on the author in recent years, a decades-old fatwa asking for his death still lasts.
At a conference for journalists, Nasser Kanaani, the spokesman of Iran’s Foreign Ministry, commented. He said, “We, in the incident of the assault on Salman Rushdie in the United States, do not think that anyone deserves criticism and allegations besides him and his followers.”
He added, “Nobody has the liberty to blame Iran in this matter.”
Salman Rushdie, Critical Condition
Salman Rushdie, 75, was stabbed on Friday while addressing an event in western New York. His agent said he had experienced a damaged liver and severed nerves in an arm and an eye. He may probably lose his damaged eye.
His attacker, Hadi Matar, 24, has declared himself completely innocent of all charges stemming from the assault through his agent.
The award-winning author for 30 years has experienced death threats for “The Satanic Verses.” Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, had released a fatwa, or Islamic edict, asking for his death.
An Iranian foundation put up a prize of more than $3 million for the author. Police in New York have not yet stated the purpose of the trip; however, District Attorney Jason Schmidt offered the prize to Salman Rushdie during a bail hearing on Saturday.
“Even if this court were to set a million dollar bail, we stand a risk that bail could be granted,” Jason Schmidt said.
