An Iranian official said on Monday that Iran has submitted an application to join the BRICS group of emerging economies. Iran’s membership in the BRICS group, “would result in added values for both sides,” according to a spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
Iranian President Seyed Ebrahim Rayeesi has been invited to the BRICS meeting in China. As the host of the BRICS Summit 2022, Chinese President Xi Jinping has invited President Rayeesi to attend and deliver a speech. Raynes will speak about the Islamic Republic’s positions on international issues. Also, about the advancement of trade and economic cooperation with other countries.Â
Furthermore, the meeting will focus on “high-level discussions for global development.” Iran is the only country in the West Asian region invited to the BRICS+ summit.
Argentina’s desire to join BRICS
Separately, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Argentina had applied to join the group. Though, Argentina’s officials could not be reached for comment immediately. Argentina’s President Alberto Fernandez, who is currently in Europe, has recently reiterated Argentina’s desire to join the BRICS.
“While the White House was considering what else to turn off, ban, or spoil in the world, Argentina and Iran applied to join the BRICS,” Ms. Zakharova mentioned. Russia has long sought closer ties with Asia, South America, and the Middle East.
But it has recently increased its efforts to avoid sanctions imposed by Europe, the United States, and other countries in response to its invasion of Ukraine.
The US and other Western nations vowed unwavering support for Ukraine after 28 civilians were killed in a series of Russian attacks. Furthermore, it included a missile strike in a crowded shopping mall. Though, Russia denies targeting civilians.
As what it calls a “special military operation” to disarm Ukraine and keep fascists at bay. Kyiv and its Western allies claim the war is an unprovoked act of aggression.
Conclusion
The BRICS members have the significant financial and political potential for establishing an independent financial mechanism. Therefore, increasing inter-group interaction to counter Western attempts to impose their policies.
The world is moving away from unipolar in economy and unilateralism in politics. Thus, Iran’s rise could play an important role in achieving the grouping’s political and economic objectives.
