The Ministry of Railways has made IRCTC answerable for making excessive first-rate meals and stopping using inferior brands.
Diabetics, infants and health-conscious people who now travel on prepaid trains, where meals are included in the fare, can now take advantage of redesigned menus to make the right meal choices.
The Ministry of Railways has ordered its PSU, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), to adapt and adapt its updated menu. Sharing information on Tuesday, the Ministry of Railways said the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation had received permission to customise its menu to meet passenger requirements.
“We now have baby food, diabetic friendly meals and meals for other health conscious customers. In addition to meals for the trains, we will serve local dishes, seasonal delicacies and holiday dishes, and there will also be local millet-based products for passenger trains,” a senior railway official said.

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd. (IRCTC) is a ‘Mini Ratna (Category I)’ Central Public Sector Company under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. IRCTC was established on 27th September 1999 as an extension of Indian Railways to improve, specialise and manage catering and hospitality services in stations, trains and elsewhere, and to expand national and international markets through the development of budget hotels and specialty tours. Promote international tourism and promote packages. , informational and commercial advertising, and a global reservation system. The company has an authorised capital of Rs.2.5 billion and a paid-up capital of Rs.1.6 billion. The registered office and head office are in New Delhi. It offers ticketing, catering and tourism services for Indian Railways.

Considering these issues, the Government of India commissioned this task to IRCT to develop a menu adapted to the needs of diabetics and infants.
So far, the IRCTC has to get approval from the railway authorities before introducing menus (mainly consisting of standardised food and drinks) on trains.The Ministry of Railways has promised IRCTC to ensure quality food and prevent the use of inferior brands. Indian Railways operates approximately 3,240 postal and express trains daily.
