India is a very beautiful country, not just because of its diversity but because of the unique cultures, history and mysteries. The real presence of Gods, where you can feel them in a flesh in various world famous temples, pilgrims, heritage places. A devotee who is standing in the queue for hours and hours without thinking a second about hunger, fatigue or worldly affairs, all he/she wants is to get a glimpse of Lord and to store in the heart forever, to feel to touch, to pray him for a while but what he/she gets? After such long waiting just a glimpse of seconds from meters away from the Garbgrah of lord and managers say to move forward without disturbing the line! It usually happens in many temples like Mahakal darshan, Tirupati balaji, Vaishno devi etc. On the other hand a person comes from a non crowded area, touch the lord sitting near to it, do prayers taking much time, all because he or she has paid some extra money ! The biggest question is this justified in a country that provides equal rights to all citizens? The practice has now set off a huge debate on whether VIP/special tickets should be banned.
ETHICAL DEBATE
Devotees worship God on religious faith and therefore there cannot be any discrimination amongst the devotees, as the VIPs are also attending the temple for darshan as devotee. God alone is VIP. If any VIP causes any inconvenience to the public devotees, then such a VIP is committing religious sin, which will not be forgiven by the God. A growing number of devotees are availing the ‘VIP darshan’ facility as a fast-track ticket to get to the deity, bypassing the common queue system entirely.
LOGICAL DEBATE
Let’s take up an example: Suppose you are standing in the queue for darshan and suddenly you see famous personality is standing in the same line may be ahead of you after 50 people. Won’t you run towards him for an autograph? If you say “No, I wont” I believe you but do you think that would be the answer of majority of the people. It would be a nightmare for the security people to stop the public from ripping every piece of cloth from his body apart so that they can get a piece of memento. Won’t you agree?
The money collected through the tickets are supposedly used for good causes and for the maintenance of the Temple and its surroundings, to pay for the 1000s of pandits and their families provisions who make the place even more sacred. People with lots of money generally don’t have that much time. So they will pay their way out of or into anything. Even if they have time they are not willing to spend it in a queue if their financial status can afford a rather easy route. Corruption being at its peak in the country it becomes even simpler for them to get their way. “Is VIP treatments in temples”.
IS THERE ANY SOLUTION?
To avoid crowd for the famous personalities there should be day or timing fix for lines for all category of people. Each and every devotee should be able to do a proper pooja because living in India and you cannot even touch and prayer to famous lords properly is not justified at all. There is much barrier, rules and restrictions then what will be the significance of the famous places? What should be the importance of Yatras? It should not be justified for these three: Â Every single big/small industrialist, big/small actor & big/small politician. It should be justified for these three:Â Each and every Divyaang people, Pregnent Women & Old aged people. VIP should be considered on the basis of situations not on the basis of financial status or public image. Special entry for VIPs should not result in infringement of the right of equality to devotees / general public waiting for darshan, observed the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court while passing a series of directions for the proper maintenance of the Subramaniya Swamy Temple in Tiruchendur, Thoothukudi district. Justice S.M. Subramaniam observed people are frustrated with VIP culture more specifically in closed. Is VIP treatments in temples premises like temples as the devotees are made to suffer on account of the special darshan for VIPs and other important persons. The temple administration is duty bound to ensure that VIP darshan is provided without causing any inconvenience to the public, he said. There can be no argument that some people deserve special darshan. However, such treatment is reserved only for special offices which the person holds, but not for the individual per se. The list of VIPs notified by the Central and the State Governments must be maintained by the temple administration and the protocol provided for such VIPs alone are to be allowed by the temple administration. It is made clear that the public servants from various government departments, who all are not falling under the category of VIP, or any other person, devotees or donors shall not be allowed to have special darshan by creating a separate queue system or along with VIP in the temple. Special Darshan should be provided only for 10 minutes and the crowd in front of the deity should also be regulated in such a manner without causing any inconvenience to the devotees. “Is VIP treatments in temples”
