Israel is now introducing stricter rules for the west bank. The new laws include foreigners declaring their Palestinian love interests residing in the west bank region to the Israeli defense ministry. The foreigner will be given 30 days to report the relationship according to the lengthy document released by the government.
The couple will only be allowed to leave 27 months after their marriage. These 27 months will be considered with a cooling-off period of at least six months.
The new laws have been criticized by both the Palestinians and foreign Non-profit Organizations. The Jewish nation is now being accused of reaching a new level of restrictions.
The new rules will be enforced by the coming Monday.
Israel enforcement of new restrictions
The situation for Palestinians is going to be shaken up by the new forceful restrictions. While there is no limit for foreign students and lecturer visas for Israeli universities, Palestinian universities are now only allowed to admit 100 foreign students and 150 foreign lecturers. These quotas will put limits on the growth of Palestinian education.
The new rules also laid out a newer set of protocols for visa duration and extensions. Aid organizations are against it as the laws will severely impact their goal. Volunteers will now be unable to work on the West bank for a couple of months. Business people also raise similar issues as aid organizations.
Experts like the director of Israel’s HaMoked NGO, Jessica Montell say that the laws that are going to be established will further isolate the Palestinian society and Israeli laws will now be engineering Palestinian society’s demographics. Jessica has also issued a petition to the Israeli high court against the new laws.
The new regulations will decrease the number of people coming from outside the country to teach, work, trade, volunteer, or work in Palestinian institutions.
Israel and two systems for one state
In the 1967 Middle East War, Israel captured the West bank from the clutches of Jordan. Today, the west bank region is one of the most tragic places to live on Earth, the administration by the Cogat, Israel’s unit enforced in the area by the Defense Ministry published a 97-page document in February which included the current set of restrictive rules in the procedural entry of foreigners in the regions like Judea and Samaria. The document had been delayed since it was issued.
According to the contents of the document, It says it will define the authority levels as well as foreign applications wanting to visit Judea or Samaria. The document also cites that peace in the west bank region had already been established in the 1990s. The ‘peace agreement’ included granting approvals for Palestinian residents and that they officially need to register the names of family members, spouses, and children to live in the regions of Gaza or the West bank.
For those visiting Israel along with Palestinian regions and settlements by Jews, the rules are not applicable. Israeli immigration officials will be involved in such processes.
The unanimous body representing Palestinian people, the PLO says the nation is bringing up apartheid rules that will enforce rules of one state’s realities onto two different systems. On the other hand, Israeli government has defended the rules by saying the regulations are needed for security purposes.
Several campaign groups like “Right to Enter” are against the country’s enforcement of strict laws. The group claims the new laws introduced are cruel, discriminatory and forceful practices of higher authorities. The new laws is cause a humanitarian crisis, foreign spouses will be separated from their families by force, the end result will be aggravating for Palestinians who will be forced to move or not visit families anymore.
The situation for West Bank dwellers seems to be compromised and is definitely going to worsen due to the new laws that are being introduced without any consent by Palestinians. The fight for homeland is tense and it seems like Palestine is getting the short end of the stick.
