The Interim Prime Minister of Israel, Yair Lapid visited France on its first foreign visit on 5 July, Tuesday as Naftali Bannett quit the Prime Ministership following the power-sharing agreement.
Yair Lapid urges President Macron to revisit stalled Iran nuclear deal. He said that the current situation will lead to the nuclear arms race in the middle east and threatens world peace.
Israeli Prime Minister made his remarks in a joint press conference on Iran’s Nuclear deal and Hezbollah’s threats to Israel’s security. Israel intercepted Hezbollah drones recently which were coming to the Karish oil field.
Yair did not mention Palestine in its remarks but during the bilateral, the issue was placed on the table. Emmanuel Macron said that the momentum of normalization of relations between Arab countries and Israel must be accompanied toward a solution to the Palestine question.
Emmanuel Macron on Iran nuclear deal said that “I would like to remind you once again of our desire to conclude the negotiations on a return to compliance with the JCPOA as soon as possible,” He added that “We must defend this agreement,” “with even negotiations on ballistic and regional activity.”
Lapid said Israel and France may disagree on the content of the deal, but we do not disagree that Iran continues to violate the agreement and develop its program, enriching uranium beyond the level and removing cameras from nuclear sites.
Notably, the Iran nuclear deal had stalled when then US President Donald Trump pulled out from the deal in 2015. However, after Joe Biden’s reign of power, the deliberation started on the Iran nuclear deal in Doha but the discussions ended without resolution as Iran wanted that firstly the United States pull back sanctions from Iran.
The rapport between the two leaders has been a decade old since Macron was the Economic minister and Lapid was the Finance Minister. The two leaders have similar views on centrist politics and they have discussed ways to promote the centrist approach to politics, and the two leaders have regular conversations on WhatsApp, Jerusalem Post reported.
