In Itaewon Halloween crowd crush, more than 150 people have died and many people are traumatized by it.
He expressed that, On that horrendous night, at 19.00, the whole valley got way too crowded and he was worried too. There was barely any space to walk for people and the entrance of his shop was completely blocked. There were people who were even in the line for a restaurant.
A fashion store “Milano collection” owner Nam in-seok, a man in his eighties witnessed the horrific event on the night of 29th october. He has been running his store for the past 11 years.he witnessed the moment of death of many people in the little alley, famously known as “death trap”.
He said the entrance of his shop was so blocked that when he opened his shop at 21.50, when he opened the door of the shop two young women fell right inside.they were covered with dirt and they bruises all over.
Mr. Nam could hear people scream for help, at first he thought they were probably fighting or something. When he went out to take a look, people were piling up on top of each other. He tried helping them, but it was of no use as the amount of people was too much.Most were young men and women, they could not breath. He stayed out trying to help victims until 04.00.
Mr. Nam helped the victims clean up after the incident too. He could not go to sleep and he was helping police even after the incident by collecting the things, like bags and clothes, which were left at the spot.
There is a video of a single police officer looking distressed and struggling to help people out.
Kim Baek-gyeom, assistant inspector in seoul has received a lot of praise for his efforts. Even though the Itaewon police station is only a few hundred metres from the alley, still he stayed there to help people until the fatal crash took place.
He was not aware of the exact situation when he arrived, he believed it to be a fight at most, he was completely unaware. Police received a total 11 panicked calls, alerting them to higher levels of overcrowding.
As per the public perception, the police forces did nothing to prevent this tragedy,teenages died along with 11 teachers and other 43 people.
Later it was found out that the ferry had been illegally altered and was overloaded and was not properly secured.the captain was sentenced to life in prison for killing people and many others prosecuted.
Number of people coming to the alley and putting their white flowers for the deceased and mourning has increased.
After this big disaster, the young people in South Korea are saying that their beliefs in the country have been destroyed. They are expressing their condolence to the families of dead people. The new generation feels that they are getting protected in their own country.
