Possibility of newly found fascism in Italy
Italy managed to attract worldwide attention, post its General Elections 2022 Results. It was a gigantic win for Giorgia Meloni of the Fratelli d’Italia party also known as the Brothers of Italy. Giorgia won with a majority vote against opponent Enrico Letta, a candidate representing Italy’s center-left Partito Democratico or Democratic Party for the general elections.
What caught instant attention is Italy’s controversial selection of an extreme right-wing party at the Centre. The Fratelli d’italia or Brothers of Italy is known to have notorious roots, Giorgia being its co-founder.
Giorgia Meloni was born in Rome in 1977. She is a politician and a journalist by profession. At the age of 15, Giorgia joined the Youth Front, the youth wing of Movimento Sociale Italiano (MSI) or Italian Social Movement.
MSI was formed in 1946 post World War ll, following the ideology of Benito Mussolini. Although it didn’t gain any political recognition until the 80s. It was a neo-fascist, extreme nationalist, and conservative party.
In 1995, MSI was dissolved due to political oppression the party faced due to its extremely conservative ideology. A new party known as the National Alliance was formed which acted as a more refined and reformed successor of MSI.
National Alliance is called the legal successor of MSI because it was formed by Gianfranco Fini, secretary of MSI. Besides that, the majority of the members of MSI are composed National Alliance. Giorgia Melino joined National Alliance as a national leader of the party’s student movement.
She shifted to higher hierarchal levels within the party before she finally co-founded Fratelli d’italia or Brothers of Italy in 2012 getting promoted to the position of president in the party in 2014.
Meloni is quite a controversial figure. Her fascist actions are very blatant while her words are pragmatic. Meloni is known to have a far-right cast of mind. Her political views depict the obvious presence of jingoism and fascist principles many say.

She is very loud and conscious of Christianity sometimes to an extent enough to be called a religious bigot. She is socially conservative and is accused of racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, homophobia, and prejudice against people belonging to diverse sexualities along with being highly critical of immigration rights. She is a despiser of abortion and euthanasia.
Meloni believes in partnerships, marriages, and parenting by same-sex couples, stating that nuclear families are exclusively headed by male-female pairs says Wikipedia.
Giorgia Meloni shares the Eurosceptic perspective and is most critical of the European Union calling them “monsters”. She calls herself Pro NATO and was in favor of maintaining friendly relations with the Kremlin even though she highly disapproves of the warfare in Ukraine which is functioned by Russia.
Meloni is infamous for conferring controversial statements. In her earlier days of politics, Meloni praised fascist ruler and dictator Benito Mussolini in an interview. She also praised Giorgio Almirante, the co-founder of the Italian Social Movement (MSI), who was a Nazi collaborator and editor-in-chief of the anti-Jew and racist magazine La Difesa della Razza.
Once the conservative politician is said to have attended an event that demonstrated anti-LGBT rights disapproving adoption by people belonging to the LGBT community. She supported the anti-gender movement that took place under conservative Christianity which screams radical Catholicism.
An advocate against illegalizing the adoption rights of the LGBT community in the Italian constitution, she took to Twitter to protest against the representation of a gay couple in the movie Frozen 2 claiming the act was a bad influence on children.
The FDI leader added the tricolor fire symbol to her party’s flag. The symbol is a representation of fascism that prevailed in Mussolini’s Italy. It is said to be adopted from the Italian Social Republic (RSI) which was an aggressive fascist party created by Mussolini. She refuses to remove the symbol from the flag indirectly promoting fascism.
The European Union is under stress ever since Italy declared its new Prime Minister as Meloni’s views don’t align with the purpose of the group and can bring obstruction. Read more
Even if Giorgio denies her party’s fascist interests, history is the witness of possible contradictions.
And at the end, how long a party that is built on the foundation of fascism can go?
My answer to it will be, far beyond the interest of democracy and tangible political possibilities for the worst.
