On Thursday the two-day-long meeting between the foreign ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member states takes place in Goa.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an eight-member multilateral Organisation consisting of India, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Today morning the foreign minister of India Mr. S. Jaishankar held a meeting with SCO Secretary-General Mr. Zhang Ming. It is said that the meeting was a productive as well as constructive affair. The foreign minister has shown gratitude towards the SCO as it is the commencement of India’s Presidency for the first time and thanked everyone for their support especially the secretary general for the same.
India will be the one who will organize the 2024 summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in July.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation stands for regional security, mutual trust, gratitude, and friendly relations with neighbors among the member states. It strongly works to exert some common efforts in the field of regional peace and security, counter-terrorism, separatism, illegal immigration, etc. This time India is the host and the presidency lies with it.
The foreign minister of India described the meeting with Secretary General as productive with a commitment to secure SCO.
The key focus areas on which the discussions will take place during the two-day-long meetings are Startups, Traditional Medicine, Youth Empowerment, Buddhist heritage, and Science and Technology, also nonetheless the idea of Atma Nirbhar Bharat will be reflected extensively.
The theme for the Chairmanship Of India for SCO in the year 2024 will be “Secure SCO”, attaching meanings to it is, promoting multilateral, political, and regional security, economic upliftment, increased engagement in people-to-people ties in the region sticking to the roots of SCO.
The foreign ministers of China, Russia, and Pakistan are likely to attend the meeting in Goa, India. Such an accord at this period of time in the world where threats of world war are circulating is very crucial for India. The multilateral ties among the member states may prove to be fruitful for ensuring regional security as of now. The eyes are however on the meeting of India and Pakistan where Mr. S Jaishankar and Mr. Bilawal Bhutto respectively are likely to meet in the two-day-long meeting and can discuss the bilateral relations between the two nations which are always been hampered since the independence. Although there is no assure that both countries will agree to bilateral cooperation but it will be the first time 12 years that a Pakistani foreign minister would e visiting India for the sake of regional cooperation and security
The ongoing relations with SCO have proved to be very fruitful for India in terms of building bilateral relations among the member states and linkages of civilization by open border and easy flow of goods and services across the border.
The world is looking for India at this crucial time. This year India has also grabbed the presidency for G20 which is also going on a large scale with many meetings happening on varied issues and futuristic agendas all across the country with an aim to build more conducive and trustworthy relations among the member states.
