On Friday, The Japanese Finance ministry announced at a press conference that new sanctions have been imposed by Japan on a number of Russian officials and their families.
81 people and 9 Russian organisations have been targeted by the sanctions
The sanctions imposed by Japan target 81 people and nine organisations, including Rostec defence corporation, Rusichi military and sports training centre, Klimov engine manufacturer, Ruselectronics microelectronics firm, Kalashnikov arms manufacturer, Sozvezdie electronic welfare firm, United Engine Corporation, Yantar shipbuilding company and shipbuilding plant More in Crimea.
The sanctions lead to ban on exports of 89 chemical weapon-related items to Russia, export restrictions on leather items, liquor, cosmetics, luxury items, technological equipment and transportation trucks. Up to the present time, Japan has sanctioned 903 Russians, 280 firms and 11 banks.
Japan’s move comes as a major and strong reaction to Russia’s decision to annex Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. Yoshimasa Hayashi, Foreign Minister, said that assets of officials who have participated in the annexation of the regions of Ukraine will be frozen by Japan.
