Chinese missiles largest exercises after Noancy Pelosi’s visit have alarmed the Pacific nation. Yesterday China fired missiles in Taiwan and five of them landed in Japan’s exclusive economic zone.
Yesterday China fired missiles towards north, south and east of Taiwan. And five these missiles landed in a Japanese exclusive economic zone , according to Japan’s defence minister Nobuo Kishi.
“To have five Chinese missiles fall within Japan’s EEZ like this is a first”, Kishi told reporters. “We have protested strongly through diplomatic channels. This is a grave issue that concerns our country’s national security and the safety of the people, Kishi said to Kyodo news, Tokyo.
Japan’s exclusive economic zone stretches 200 nautical miles from the outer limits of its territorial sea. Earlier this year, North Korean missiles have fallen in this area. Just two hours before the strike, China cancelled a planned meeting with Japan. China said this was due to its displeasure over a G7 statement calling for peaceful resolution to China’s tensions with Taiwan.
Chinese missiles Largest Exercise in Decades
Yesterday’s exercises were China’s largest in the Taiwan strait. It began at midday and China live fired missiles in the waters surrounding Taiwan. China’s actions have raised tensions to their highest in a quarter century. Chinas was in response to Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, which it claims as part of its mainland.
According to the Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, China canned long range rocket artilleries in the Taiwan Strait. It also launched conventional missiles in waters to the east of Taiwan. Taiwan’s Defence Ministry said it tracked the release of China’s Dong Feng missiles. It also tracked long distance rockets and ammunition fired from Wuquiu, Matsu and Dongyin islands.
Soon Taiwan criticized China’s missile exercises.“ China’s irrrational behaviour intends to disrupt regional peace and stability in the region and alter the status quo”, Taiwan said. “ The three service branches will combine efforts with all people to jointly safeguard national security and territorial integrity while adapting to the situation as it develops, its statement read.
