Former Indian Cricketer and legend, Kapil Dev, has slammed India’s poor fielding efforts in the match.Ā India’s road to the semi-finals was looking all clear only till the two wins of the Men In Blues against arch-rivals, Pakistan and the Netherlands, but India Versus South Africa made that easy road a little bumpy. India lost to South Africa on Sunday, October 30, by 5 wickets. Ā
Many believe that Virat Kohli’s blunder turned the tide of the game, allowing South Africa to win, all thanks to the excellent half-centuries from Markram and Miller. However, former India captain Kapil Dev thinks that India’s unreliable batting and fairly mediocre fielding was what ultimately cost them dearly.
Kapil Dev lists the mistakes done from the Indian team
The turning point was roared when Virat Kohli dropped one of the surest catches, giving Aiden Markram a means to recover. India had missed a couple of effortless run-out opportunities, including the captain Rohit Sharma’s missed attempt to hit the stumps from direct line of sight. When India blew their chances, Markram and David Miller were on the verge of saving the South African innings. R Ashwin almost got the wicket of Markram, but it couldn’t be executed properly as Kohli dropped the catch of Markram at the deep midwicket.
Against South Africa, India had an exquisite chance to increase their chances of getting into the T20 World Cup quarterfinals. However, poor fielding and distinctly average scoring had them wait longer to make it to the top four. Arshdeep Singh did his job as he dismissed Quinton de Kock and Rilee Rossouw in the same over to reduce South Africa to 3/2 while India was defending a meagre score of 133, but they were let down by some surprising fielding.
Kapil Dev mentioned in his interview that there was not a single turning point in the match, several moments were there that could be picked up in the favor of the Indian team. At the time of batting, India was seen in a hurry when there’s no need, Kapil Dev added. Virat’s dropped catch and Rohit’s missed run out were included in the list. South Africa lost 2 wickets in the early overs but missed chances of run-outs added to India’s defeat against South Africa. Also, Rohit Sharma in the post-match talk accepted the mistakes done from his side.
The former cricketer made it very clear that these mistakes are not acceptable at a huge platform of T20 Men’s World, and these could also not be repeated in the following matches.
Team India’s upcoming matches in the campaign
South Africa was able to advance to the top of Group 2’s standings only because of the victory against India. However, Kapil believes that India still has hope because they have four points after two victories in three games. A victory over Bangladesh on Wednesday will undoubtedly increase India’s chances of making it to the semifinals. India will lastly face Zimbabwe, on the coming Sunday.Ā
